Well, it's less about othering you and more of helping people find their content and avoiding harassment.
if it where up to me I would say do away with the LGBTQ+ tags in their entirety since it really doesn't say anything about the story other than they have LGBTQ+ content. But then you have to think about the idiots who will harass the creators for daring to have gay content in the story.
And then there are people like me, people who don't give a fuck about the character's sexual orientation as long as the story is good. But stays away from BL and GL cause their full of romance which 99% of the time its very bad Romance =P.
if you want you can write a story without the tags but you run the risk of having idiots attacking you, so it's a necessary evil.
Hopefully, in the future, we won't need such a tag and everybody could accept a character regardless of their sexuality or gender, but for now, we have to stop harassment some way.
You either ban the people harassing (which people have tried to do but hasn't been effective to this day since you would have to define harassment and some would object to the definitions so your redefine it again and again and again) or you make it so harassers and victims are separated hence the tag.
Also you guys are already othering yourselves with the BL and GL tag, I'm saying to be less othering and more diverse since with one banner you guys could have different genres, not necessarily romance, with gay content. Like sci-fi Lgbtq+ or slice of life Lgbtq+. BL and GL locks your stories to romance I'm saying do away with the romance part.
