This has definitely happened to me before, but It's a spoiler and I probably won't write it for a long time

I was thinking, because I wanna introduce some gods in my story, what would those gods be, and how would they have a connection to my characters? Then it hit me. Because there's already a super legendary type of dragon in my story, they would be dragons. But what would their connection to my mcs be? Does anyone know the story called puff the magic dragon? Because I took major inspiration from that, as well as the story arc called Skypia from the series One Piece. My story goes, 1,000s of years ago, there was this dragon called Puff. Puff was best friends with this kid called Jackie, and they would play every day. But one day, Jackie stopped seeing Puff, and he was really sad about that. So he decided, since dragons live forever, he would spend the rest of his life looking for Jackie. About 100 years later, Puff realized Jackie wasn't on the earth any more, but he didn't wanna give up. So he flew up to the sky, hoping that he could see his friend from there. Here I should mention that something catastrophic happened. The world was split in half quite literally. After this flashback ends, in current time, our MCs decide to explore the other half of the world. They meet the pirates Bonney and Reed. I should now mention that there aren't many ways to travel from one half of the world to the other. You could travel if you had wings but that's dangerous, you could travel via flying boat but those are expensive and quite hard to make, or, the least known way is to go up the worlds tallest mountian on the side my characters live on, and glide using a ship. But once you get across, it's quite hard to get back since there are no tall mountians on the other side. The only way to travel back is to go up to the clouds and ride them. Once they finished their adventure on the other side, Bonney tells us her backstory. She had this ancestor called Jackie, he had a best friend who was a dragon. He really missed playing with him, so one day, he was telling his kids about his childhood stories, when he remembered Puff. After that, he made it his life's mission to find Puff again so his kids could play with him. After searching for ages, Jackie died in the great splitting of the earth that I mentioned, but his kids took it upon themselves to find Puff again. But because Puff was already in the skies at this point looking for his friend Jackie, the kids couldn't find him. So it eventually became a dream of all of Bonneys family, to find Puff the dragon again. But they had no idea that he could have been in the sky, since it was only a legend that people could live up there. When getting back home, my MC Kura takes the risk of riding the clouds back to her side. No one had proved that the sky cities existed, but no one had also disproved it. She takes that risk, and ends up getting there, where she meets Puff. She then realises this is the dragon Bonney had been looking for, but their cloud was moving away quickly, so she tells Puff to roar as loud as he can to get her attention as she yells Bonneys name, which says to Bonney that he had been in the sky all along.
I came up with that in one sitting, and honestly, I'm pretty impressed with myself cause I wasn't even planning on Bonney having any backstory, I was just thinking about what my gods should be like.
