that was my guess too... but does that justify constant "don't forget to like" messages? SHOULD artists put them at the end, or is it more annoying.... it's a bit funny how important something, as simple as a like, can be to someone else :')

i think its reasonable - calls to like and subscribe are basically par for the course on youtube, why not on webcomics? sometimes people just need the reminder

I usually try to like episodes unless I’m too lazy

And one reason why creators want to have likes - it’s an easy way to check the activity on your updates and see how each one is doing. I guess you could compare it to likes on YouTube. Smaaaaash that like button guys!

Very good question! Some minutes ago we talked about it with my roommate.
I mostly don't forget it since I'm a creator but before that... It really just slipped out from my mind easily, even if I loved that chapter or the series. I had several reasons for this I guess... Mainly I just wanted to read the next episode as fast as possible. And maybe when I finished all the episodes I pressed the like buttons forgetting about previous episodes.
So I think common reader does not associate "like" as support, they mainly think it is not more then "like" in facebook, when you show your admiration but not more, so one like in the end of reading should be totally enough for that. And they don't like to look like a freak in facebook who just goes through a person's gallery and likes every one of its pictures.
So, I think it is good to remind them it is not a "simple like" for us. We have to do because it is easy to forget. Aaaand bonus fact : some researches say it can be efficient if we do this in a unique way because "pls like, subscribe, share!" is easily becomes erased automatically by our brains because it is heard too much.

I like every episode and try to come up with relevant comments on Tapas.

When youtubers specifically ask for likes I don't like the video because I'm a dick.

I would guess most people don't like just because they never think about it or don't realize how important the action can be.

for me it stops the flow of the reading. also it's not like youtube where likes make the video appear more in the recommended section. it's basically just nice for the author to see, but overall pointless.

but it's not pointless.... it helps to get you on popular or trending

and on webtoons you get a small icon once you've passed 1k likes, which will in return attract more readers

for me its form of habit even before i joined tapas i used to al least favorite the works of artists whos content i enjoyed while i was on deviantart and tge same with likes on facebook. maybe its because i knew i wanted the same in return and because it was an easy way to show i liked or enjoyed something and also give the content creator a little appreciation

now commenting on the other hand im bad at, though there's times I've wanted to but i worry about seeming like an oddball or something

that's true actually... maybe it would be nice to take away that fear of "looking like a stalker" and encourage bulk liking

when I was a reader I used to only like a chapter if it had something I wanted to go back to to look at later... so I almost used the likes as a bookmarker of sorts, so I could find those things... so I acatually avoiding liking so I could easily find those chapters...

Now as a creator I feel bad about that and I like as much as I can remember to help support the creator

i only like when i remember, i also tend to only like small time comics cause i figure they need it more than the big guys

When I was purely a reader, I used to only like if I like the content because I thought it was more genuine.

But now I just like everything I actually read. Because hey if I’m still spending time to read it then I must enjoy it to some extent. And if I enjoy it then it deserves a like. Liking isn’t that difficult to begin with, takes like a second.

Other times when I’m binging a series though, I would go bulk heart every episode after I finish binging. Webtoons doesn’t notify so I do it without worry, but tapas notify and I’m not sure how people feel about getting 50 notifications.

Personally I’d be happy if someone took the time to go back and heart everything, showing that they actually really like the story, so I just do it anyways, hoping that would be the case for other creators.

Sometimes I like only those pages of novels and comics which seems the most nice for me. Sometimes I like all the pages of the novel or comics, for example, if I think that author don't get enough support, and want to help them go to the Trending or Popular or just cheer them up. But sometimes I just forget to like.
As well as others here, I've liked stuff less in general, when I was just a reader (not the creator of online content) and didn't think about the "like" as something valuable.

I press the like on every episode I read. It takes just one click, it marks the place which i've already read, it is to show support to the comics I subscribed to in the first place. And when I really like an episode when i'm binge reading a series, I leave a comment in it.

When I read a work when they updated, I like it (unless I forget) but when I binge read I like only the episodes who please me most.
I think readers who don't have a Tapas account can't like? So any outsider reader will fatally lower your like/view ratio.

Sometimes I think there's just that one chapter that just hits all the right notes that it makes even the entire story feel memorable even if the the remainder or the beginning isn't as impactful. Especially on Tapas' Novels. It's weird, but a good weird.

I remember not only to like, but also to comment. Not only does it help someone's story trend, but it also really encourages them to keep writing or drawing the story! And really, it only takes like an extra minute to leave a like and a meaningful comment, so why not make someone else's day a little brighter?

With smaller creators, I like everything and even try to comment, where I somehow forget to do it with bigger comics or novels.
(Doesn't mean I only like so much of their work only because I want to help them get into the trending tab. I genuinely like their stuff so much. xD)
