INTRODUCTION TO AUTHOR:
Hello!
I'm G.D. Cruz author of Level Up Hero (among others
). I've been writing web novels since 2018 with my works on Webnovel hitting more than one million reads, although I jumped ship to Tapas late last year because it's a way better platform.
Now I'm transitioning from novelist to comic writer and I'm looking for a collaborator to help bring my novel [Level Up Hero] to life on the page.
INTRODUCTION TO THE PROJECT:
LEVEL UP HERO is an ongoing work with 70+ chapters currently published on Tapas. It was recently contracted to PREMIUM NOVEL status this March 2021 with a tentative premium release date of April 2021.
The novel is an urban SUPERHERO FANTASY with elements of Greek Mythology woven into its structure. I also make use of LitRPG mechanics such as floating screens to symbolize the protagonist's growth in the novel.
In a nutshell: A modern-day Greek hero uses his newfound powers to fight eldritch-type horrors and Megalomaniacal supervillains to protect New York City from total destruction and become the symbol of hope the world needs.
It's written in a very kinetic way, with action scenes that can easily be translated from script to art. I'm also very descriptive in appearances so you won't have a hard time imagining the world or characters.
Genres are ACTION (Main), FANTASY, and ROMANCE.

INTRODUCTION TO THE MAIN CHARACTERS:
Protagonist: Sam Shepard
Age - 21
Personality - Sam’s a generally hopeful guy, but past failures have caused him to lose his confidence, pushing him to run away from the duty that can’t be forsworn. However, he discovers that he can’t run away when someone needs his help, and he isn’t sure why. But when he is driven to action, he goes way out of his way to do the right thing which surprises him the most.
Appearance: Sam is a sun-kissed-skinned (More light golden than brown) Hispanic American who is about 5’9 with a Lean, slightly muscular build similar to Spider-Man. He has messy, medium-length dark brown hair framing a chiselled face, dark bushy eyebrows above almond-shaped teal-colored eyes, and a long straight nose with a slightly wider bridge, and lips that easily form a genuine smile.
Emotion Character - Thunder: (Also the love interest and person responsible for Sam's new power)
Age: 20
Appearance: Thunder has short blonde hair framing a pretty, heart-shaped face. Her eyes are a dazzling sky blue. She also has a straight, pointed nose and lips as red as a rose’s petals. Thunder’s body is well-toned, athletic, with perfect curves common in female heroes.
Personality Trait: Thunder is assertive, opinionated, and feisty, but she seems to have a soft side when it comes to Sam, the healer who saves her life.
Reason Character - Chiron: (the legendary hero trainer from Greek myths and Sam's teacher)
Age: 5,000+
Appearance: Hasn’t appeared physically in the novel yet, but he's a centaur. He shows up as a text box or dialogue box speaking into Sam's mind.
Personality Trait: Although he is known to be the best hero trainer in the world, Chiron himself doesn’t automatically prescribe to a righteous alignment. He’s been around long enough to know that good and evil are relative. He’s also a grumpy, snarky dude who finds joy in making Sam’s life difficult, although he’s secretly rooting for the young hero to succeed.
For more characters and details, you can PM me directly as I want to avoid making this post too long. XD
DRAWING AND WRITING STYLE / AESTHETIC:
As I said, Level Up Hero is very action-oriented so it's very kinetic in its scenes. Here's a sample:
"Eight, nine, ten — with each new blow, Sam’s fists got heavier and heavier so that each strike came with the sound of the wind roaring in his ears. Every single one of his punches was like a bomb detonating on the cannibal’s flesh, but still, the horror held, and despite getting pushed back by Sam’s assault, it managed to punch the hero back, often landing a blow that caused Sam to stumble backward."
STYLE: I'm looking for a mesh of western comic book style and eastern manga. Less bulky characters like in manga but well-defined muscularity like in western books such as Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Color or Black and white: I'd prefer color. Or if the collaborator would like to try a mesh of color and black and white similar to the TERROR MAN MANWHA then I'd be down for that too.
Here's samples of the character designs made by my cover artist. Of course, the collaborator can change these designs to suit their own personal styles.

This is a work that is definitely SFW.
PROJECT DETAILS:
Timeline: Minimum 6-month project, flexible schedule to be worked out by both writer and artist.
Chapter count: Ideally, we can create the entire first volume which caps out at a 90k word count (will obviously be lowered for script purposes) but the 1st season of 20 chapters, roughly 900-word count per chapter, would be the minimum request.
Work duties: I'll handle all writing duties, adapting the novel to a script, and even make a 'name' if the artist requires it. Artist will handle all artist duties until we can discuss hiring help.
Release schedule: Planned release schedule would be weekly, but taking into account an artist's ability and other concerns (like a day job) would need discussion. I'm flexible here so we can release on a bi-monthly or monthly basis if needed. I do think character design, background design, and other details should be fleshed out within 2 weeks of acceptance of work though.
Planned Platforms: Submission to Tapas Studio would be ideal so that we can get premium status and get monetization up and running ASAP. As LUH is a premium novel, it may be easier to get approval for the comic too. Whether to go exclusive or non-exclusive will be negotiable between collaborators. Webtoons is also a likely possibility.
Monetization: A 50/50 split revenue between me (the original author and scriptwriter) and the main artist. This is negotiable based on the delegation of duties, and I'm always open to talk about this in detail.
*As much as I'd love to pay the artist upfront, even I won't be making bank until after launch, but I can discuss the possibility of paying for a 1st chapter which would be our proof-of-concept for submission to Tapas Studio.
FINALLY
Sorry for how long this message is but I really want to show that this is a serious project proposal and I'm looking for a serious collaborator who will be willing to share their blood, sweat, and tears for OUR work. Honestly, I've been burned before with another artist. We'd gotten past character design and 'name' but never pushed through with the serialization of another work.
If you're into fantasy, action, and superheroes then I'd love to hear from you. I understand, of course, if not getting paid upfront will turn you off. It's just the way it is. But I do hope you can also consider the series potential during your deliberation.
Please PM me if you have questions, would like to discuss collaboration more, want to submit your art samples, or if you have your own ideas for how to go forward (I'm always flexible to my collaborator's ideas).
If you're looking for more work samples from me, I can PM them at your request.
Looking forward to hearing back from prospects!
Cheers!
