Lost visibility after a long break, would reposting help?

Hi everyone, I’ve been running a webcomic on Tapas for about 8 years. I used to post every day and the comic was doing really well, giving me a lot of satisfaction. Unfortunately, due to various issues, I had to take about a one-year break. Since I’ve come back, the interactions are no longer the same. I now publish 10 pages every two weeks consistently, but the engagement isn’t what it used to be. I think the long break may have hurt the comic’s visibility.

Do you think it would be useful to republish it from the beginning, maybe posting one page a day? Or 5 pages a week? Perhaps a fresh, updated repost could help regain the visibility I’ve lost.

i dont think deleting and reposting your entire comic would be the best solution especially since you'd also be losing all current engagement and comments you have on your work. but if you've got enough backlog to post 10 pages every two weeks it may be more worthwhile to chop those up a bit to spread out to something similar to your old upload schedule of a page a day or a couple pages every few days.

it might also help to consider using some of the other available genre tags since there's the option to select up to three, as it could help get wider visibility to readers checking out those genres. coz while fantasy is a relevant and popular tag it's also very saturated so adding something like comedy or action even may help. maybe even gaming since it looks to reference rpg tropes so it could probably fit in

All said tho your comic is well done so i mean what i say about not destroying what interactions you do have now, it'll just be a matter of drumming up engagement and advertising your work. even big comics tend to suffer big drops in engagement after those really long breaks so it's better to slowly build back up than start over entirely

Thank you so much. I was actually planning to just do a new series without deleting the previous one, even though I don't receive new comments often (I may not have received a new one in years)
but I will try your advices first! Those are all very valid. I didn't know posting daily was so important.

No worries! Daily posting is something I've honestly never been able to keep up with but I've noticed that series with intermittent updates with a smaller gap (like once or twice a week) sometimes perform better than if it were to have larger updates over wider gaps (like big batches every two weeks).

If anything I think it sometimes has less to do with a series but more reader behavior since folks will sometimes either binge a comic all at once or check up with weekly updates. It's one of the reasons I think things like reader retention can be tough to gauge since it's something that varies a lot from person to person. Likely the only reason I've even come to really understand that is watching other creators kind of poll their readers to see what update schedules are the most popular and then finding ways to balance that with their own schedules

It can be a tricky thing but it's not impossible to overcome
