Lots of View, but few Likes and Subscribes

So I'm still fairly new and don't have a lot episodes posted, but I noticed that I seem to be getting a decent amount of steady traffic in the performance data, but I've had very few people like episodes or leave comments. I'm not sure if it's because my comic is still fairly short, I need to prompt people for likes/subs, or if I'm missing something else? Or if I should just not worry about it and just keep chugging on.

To be clear it's not a huge amount of traffic, just maybe 6-12ish a week, but definitely a smaller percentage of those actually come out to likes and I can count the amount of comments I have on 1 hand. I'm not expecting them to be equal, but I'm not sure what a good ratio of views to likes would be.

I'm posting a novel and not a comic, so take this with a grain of salt; things may differ between the two. But I took a peek at my stats to get an idea. Using my most viewed chapter, about 3% of those views translated to a like, and it's also got zero comments. Other chapters with fewer views have a better stat-spread, but the highest view-to-like ratio I've got is around 10%.

All that to say... likes are uncommon and comments are rare. It's normal.

If you want to encourage interaction, you could always ask questions / leave open comments in the episode descriptions. But I'm not sure there's much you could do to encourage likes.

Also, kind of related: your own views of episodes count toward your total. So if you pop in to check something and make sure it looks the way you want, you've just added to the views. If you're trying to track your early stats, just keep that in mind.

It's normal to have way more views than likes and subs for multiple reasons:

• Silent readers who decide not to sub for whatever reason (maybe they don't have an account for e.g.)
• People reading episodes more than once
• Your own views count, as mentioned

Please don't take it as a reflection of the quality of your work, because it isn't.

It took a long time for me to get any comments on my work, so I understand where you're coming from.

My comic is doing pretty well, but my ratio of views:likes:comments is ~100:2:0.3 on the older pages and ~100:15:2 on the newer pages. The old ratio doesn't bother me. Lots of people who read my comic don't have Tapas accounts.

Getting comments is easier from engaging with forum regulars - we already have accounts and are used to commenting. Getting comments from non forum regulars is pretty rare even for very popular comics.

...So don't worry about it!

Good to hear! I wasn't too worried about the comment since I started a little in media res, I just think the problem is there's not necesarily a lot to comment on, but the likes/subs did have me a bit psyched out lol
