About a month ago, I came on here to talk about magical girls because I wanted to make a team of my own. I'm really thankful for everyone who responded in that topic which you can find here:
I also want to thank those who voted in another thread about the color scheme for one of the characters:
All of that got the creative juices flowing and I was able to come up with a concept and characters within the month. Now I want to share them here:
So the concept is that, There are two forces that control life and death: the Life-Givers and the Death-Dealers. The head of the Life-Givers is a being named Vida, who has let the power of her role go to her head and is the manifestation of life. The head of the Death-Dealers is a being named Morta, who favors balance between the forces and is the manifestation of death. Long before the story, Morta attempted to lessen the burden of taking life on herself by creating demons to help her. The demons unfortunately got out of hand and she killed all of them and hid their bodies. Vida is trying to bring back those demons, and re-train them to give life. Morta does think that will end horribly but doesn't have the time to find the bodies of her former demons and destroy them for good. She calls upon her daughter, a normal girl named Georgia, who she had to leave behind to fill out her duties as Death, to stop the Life-Givers from disturbing the balance of life and death. Upon realizing that her daughter couldn't battle the Life-Givers alone, she calls upon others to aid Georgia. (this is all still in the works and nothing is set in stone, for the most part)
A thing about this story which is unlike other magical girl stories is that, the girls aren't all friends with each other in real life. After taking on the role as "Daughters of Death", they get along, but only as a team, not in everyday life. That's where the drama and character development would come from: the changes in the interpersonal relationships.
I really wanted to lean hard into the Five Man Band trope where roles are clearly defined. Georgia is the leader, Addie is the lance, Namita is the heart, Linh is the smart guy, and Cam is the big guy.
They're not in uniform. . .yea. I cared more about each girl representing the monster they're supposed to be than them all having a uniform. I did give them a motif that is present throughout each person, which is the ball and chain.
There's a lot more I would like to talk about but I leave it here.
