What's your favorite manga and why?
Right now, it's probably One Piece or My Hero Academia. The "friendship, effort, victory" Shonen Jump formula is tried and true. Neon Genesis Evangelion has always been an inspiration too, though that started as an anime before it became a manga.
What's your favorite character(s):
Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop), Gendo Ikari (Evangelion), the Androids (DBZ), Luffy and Usopp (One Piece), Asuna (SAO), Taiga (Toradora!), Saitama (One-Punch Man), Bakugo and All Might (My Hero Academia)
What's your favorite art style?
Not sure, It might not be my favorite, but the anime/manga of the '80s and '90s looks substantially different from what's being produced today. It brings back the nostalgia of when anime seemed fascinating and new, before the internet made it mainstream.
Who's your favorite manga artist:
Akira Toriyama, Eiichiro Oda and Kohei Horikoshi are all greats. What I like about them is that their styles go way beyond "big eyes, small mouth." They're not afraid to get comical, grotesque, etc.
Do you even like manga?
I took three years of college Japanese to learn how to read it (as well as play imported video games). As soon as I get a better Kindle, I'm going to find a way to subscribe to Shonen Jump's Japanese comics, if possible.
