Marketing on tiktok is...interesting

Okay but fr, I feel like with promoting on there I've seen what kinds of videos work quite well! (Please do post your own tips below if you have any, because I will happily try some new techniques.) Anyways:

1. POST PICS OF HOT CHARACTERS. Like I will make an edit of my own character, it's called a marketting move.
2. Use trending audios to show of scenes in your comic! I find that hooking in people works by piquing their curiosity. You can find fan accounts that do this with comics (for e.g. they use a romantic audio to show a couple they like) Do the same with your comic!
3. Making dumb jokes about art and comics- is it the same overused joke? Yeah. But do I care? not really. If a post like that does well, linking your comic in the comments can help get some readers
4. Pitch it! This works well if you have a more niche subject matter, and definitely include your best art. Doesn't always work, but hey, one of these kinds of videos blew up for me and helped me gain 300 subs on webtoon (SO IF IT WORKS IT WORKS)
5. Make jokes about your comic! These for me are low effort, as I'll use text over panels so that the video is colourful and good looking!
6. If you have very nice art, show it off! I do a couple art dumps here and there and people seem to enjoy them (and I usually let them know where my characters are from!)

There's a ton of other comic accounts that do this kind of promotion (I recommend looking into them) @ explodikid (the author of covenant) is really good at this!

My Tiktok isn't working that well yet but I blame that on having a novel to promote and not a comic with hot characters But you're right with your tips, I've seen those work so well for many people!

One tip I can add is using the "mental health side" of TikTok if you have characters that struggle with their mental health. If you portray them well enough, the community seems willing to check out your work.
And it doesn't matter how much time and effort you put into one TikTok, sometimes the one that took you the most time is super unpopular and the one your made while doing 1000 other things goes viral

From what I've seen, there are a ton of ways to promote your novel (but tiktok is very visual so I'm not sure how that goes)- from what I've seen people share interesting quotes, plot moments and concepts that people are interested in! There's also trends like showing off you're characters aesthetics that could work as well.

(I haven't tried so tbh I don't know how effective they are)

And yup, really random stuff goes viral so it's not worth spending a million years on videos- just throw something into a video and see what sticks.

Showing off drop-dead gorgeous male characters have the highest success rate. Because most readers are female. If the character originated from the yaoi genre, then my friend, you're bound to be successful.

Oh that one's an interesting idea! Thank you I already try sharing interesting quotes and plot moments and make them as close to trends or just clickbait in general as possible but I've never been good at promoting

I am worried I am a bit too old to use TikTok. Plus that posting the hottest character could come off a bit weird for my series.

I will ask, do people use upload animations, like stuff created in Flash? I remember people doing that for Vine but I have yet to see that catch on on TikTok. I do have ideas for short animations and I wonder if they are worth formatting to TikTok.

there's lots on tiktok if you know where to look at tbh the age demographics are a lot wider than you think

like theres one specific person who comes to mind when i think animations on tiktok but i forget their username. still its definitely not as uncommon as you may think and it probes pretty useful

thats like a more general response ive noticed that speedpaints or other art/oc trends are easy means for gaining traction and in most cases dont require making new stuff if youve got easy to reuse polished stuff

but the tidbit about putting to use popular audios is def useful if you know how to work em

I generally don’t get into new social media app, like I never really used Vine or Snapchat at their height, and I was super late to get into Twitter and Instagram. I do watch reuploads of TikToks with pugs and cats. But there hasn’t really been much drive to get an account beyond just using it for promo.

Art dumps and jokes are good. I always get about 200 views per video (but never subs which is...). I'll probably pitch it once I get my comic dub finished. Dumb jokes? Ehhhh. I have this fear where my humor will devolve (and I don't mean "HA HA HA MY HUMOR IS BROKEN! I'M SO DIFFERENT! PLEASE ACCEPT ME!"). I mean devolve for real.

It's best to see what kinda jokes you're making since TikTok does affect people's brains in a negative way depending on the videos.

I thought about using "attractive" characters but they're all underrage and I even thought about making jokes about stick figures being attractive but like... characters like Lilith are underrage. It'll go against my message (especially what happens after the Date Arc) so unfortunately I can't demean stick figures. I might do it with one character as a joke, but I dunno. I hate that THIS THE STICK FIGURE THING IS EVEN A DEBATE IN MY HEAD LMAO. But these thoughts are what make stories more legitimate. Which is why I make everything canon... because everything's on the line with how I depict these characters.
