Medibang Artists-Medibang Comic Creators PLEASE HELP

Hi everybody! I am literally nicknamed the queen of procrastination, because since my 22years of living life, I only just recently, literally THIS 2017-2018 year have begun to shy way from hand drawing and traditional art and moved myself into digital art.

Due to being hella poor, uneducated in the way of the digital art, super brand new in general but eager to learn, request help from anyone else who downloaded Medibang (for reasons) and uses it to A. Make Art or A+ MAKE COMICS!!

I am making a comic. It is super fun to sketch. I've got the lineart, the text and the speech bubbles pretty much DOWN to a T. However, it's come to the point that now it's time to colour (cause I want it that way) the comic instead of keeping it black and white. After everything was done, I merged all the layers as one, and then it named itself "layer 22" (cause there was 21 layers before it all merged)

now I'm struggling with how to

A. Colour the lineart

B. Colour the whole damn page. I can't figure out clipping, protect alpha, brush settings, the GERNERAL GENERALNESS OF MEDIBANG. Let's be super best friends and help each other out! Payment will be my love and devotion, my positive energy sent to you, and the joy of meeting new friends and creating awesome comics together CAUSE I'M POOR. Love me please I'm lonely lmao.

Hiya! Pretty long term medibang user here, at least a couple years and plenty of experimenting so I hope I can help out

If there's anything I've seen from artist to artist when it comes to colouring in medibang is what a persons style it, be it something a litle more painted or the crisp kind of animated look.

I'll say that the magic wand tool can be your friend, but i usually do all my colors beneath the line art so not to ruin potentially hours worth of work. As far as brushes go the most commonly used and my personal favorites are Watercolour and Watercolour (wet) because you can mix up color mixing levels, compliment, and opacity. For lighter stuff or shading Airbrush is good and some of the others like Stipple Pen and Acrylic Brush are better for texture details.

There's also a good handful of tutorials that explain some of the basics in coloring in medibang if experimenting is only leading to frustration. It took me some getting used to but it's a good program even though some might downplay it since it's free. I hope it works well for you!

Also for coloring the lineart you can do it one of two ways.

Normally I'll make a copy since I can never choose whether I want black lines or colored lines; but once you have the lineart in it's own layer you select Protect Alpha in the layers tab/section

and that will lock transparent pixels allowing you to put the colors right on them.

The other option would be to make a layer above the lineart and use clipping to lock those colors to the lineart. It can be fun to experiment that way especially with layer blending options (where it says normal). It's pretty similar to Photoshop and covers brightening and darkening among other filtering methods. But I think that about covers what I can remember and I'm always open for questions

Thank you so much for that advice! The problem is I have full comic page drawn and linearted lol?is that a word? Now I can't figure out how to use clipping properly. I understand the basics of Protect Alpha, now Im having troubles just coloring (for example) my characters face, a small x forms over the brush and its all on one total layer now but its still not working out?
