Hi Everyone! Do you have a comic based on historical stuff? Personal experience? Military experience? Or the military in general, even if it is fictional? Let's share!
My comic is "BOHICA Blues", and it is a historical comedy based on my actual experiences being deployed to the Iraq War.
It is not autobiographical-- all the characters are fictional, and I fictionalize some events for smoother story flow, character development, and arcs. I also inject a LOT of absurdist humor to make it a bit more palatable.
War of course is a touchy subject, and a lot of military and war comics exist but they tend to be kind of "heavy" or really salty, with some pretty NSFW humor. But I try to make BOHICA Blues more approachable-- it is pretty "family friendly" kind of like the classic TV show "M*A*S*H" for those familiar with it-- that was a comedy that aired on prime time TV back in the '80's. It was supposedly about the Korean War but it was really an allegory for the Vietnam War.
I try to approach the subject with some humor without shying away from the uncomfortable parts in the hopes of maybe getting people to think about it. Hopefully it can be enjoyed by people here! I'd love to see more comics about military service, and historical stuff, or things people have actually lived through retold in comic form-- especially if it addresses potentially difficult topics.
