Minor Character Discussion

I watched arcane and people were talking about Marcus but I didn't remember Marcus. Then I looked back on it and realized that Marcus was that dude who was being disrespectful to Vander at the start and was being blackmailed later. I never connected them as the same person because I didn't expect him to matter.

Similarly, I somehow missed the entirety of Francis's personality in ghost eyes because initially he was just one of the two guys behind the bully. I didn’t notice him until he got a love interest. So when a demon came out of his toilet to call him out on being a bully I was very confused because I missed the part where he was a bully, and he was just the emo dude with the excitable boyfriend.

Have you ever had this experience?

Not really, I tend to pay attention when reading or watching stuff, no outside distractions like phones or people talking, especially with stuff as well-written and beautiful as Arcane. Even a year after having watched it I know exactly who Marcus is and what he looks like, that he's a Piltover chief of police, he has a daughter that Silco threatens, etc...

The only times I forget characters is if the story isn't written very well so characters aren't memorable and/or the creators don't do enough to make sure that important characters (even side characters) stand out.

I've never seen Arcane, but I'm sorta the opposite in terms of paying attention to major/minor characters.
I was never a huge fan of the hero archetype. I always liked the friend/sidekick of the hero who gave them advice, or aided them when they were down or in trouble. Guess I'm all about brains, not strength.

Characters like Gandalf, Master Shifu/Oogway from Kung Fu Panda, Yoda, Miyagi, list goes on.
Then again, maybe Mentors are moreso main than minor, I am not sure anymore.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I remember both major and minor, but those considered minor seem, to me, to make the most impact, or at least tie everything together and keep the hero being the hero.
