Good morning, friends! I hope everyone is doing well! For me, I know monsters/fantasy creatures (I will stick with the term monsters for now) are really important to my story. Particularly around magic and the elusive "faerie" species. Yet, as I got my monster design commissioned, I started to wonder about other series and monster's that they find to be important/fun to create that are important to the series.
So, what monsters are important to your story? Why are they important? Drop a character design or description below with a link or picture! I am always open to subscribing for monster related series'.
My commission was based on a faerie, as mentioned above. In my novel, faeries have two forms. A partial form and full form. A partial form allows for growth of height, introduction of wings, and two small horns on the head. The height increase is roughly a foot, but it can be more. The wings themselves resemble to shape of fairy wings, ridges of gargoyles/dragons, and inner workings of a fairy/bat. They are large in comparison to the body and can be used to fly.
Then there is the full fairy form which is very different from other novels/stories. I wanted these to be eerie/creepy/scary. Since this character design is completely new compared to other faeries, I realize that I needed some to piece together the description and help me put this idea into an image.
For the case of a full faerie, there is significant growth in height, anywhere from four to six feet in growth. Muscle is put on but not significantly. Arms and legs are lengthened greatly compared to torso and upper chest area. Fingers turn into very long claws, roughly a foot in length each as do feet except those are extended far less yet still there. Two longer horns are grown from the head, and the ears are a bit lengthened.
Arms and legs have an ombre coloring where around the mid arm (and above the knee) a dark black color starts to trickle down until the hands and feet are completely black. The mouth is a fun part, instead of normal enhanced canines, as seen with a partial form, all teeth sharpen considerably, the canines and tooth next to the canine extend greatly; when the mouth is open, the teeth resemble that of a werewolves (just without the muzzle).
Eyes are fun. The sclera turns pitch black, but the irises are different. The irises have a lighter ring around them or the color that the iris is. I.e. the iris not pictures here has a bright purple ring around inner lining of the iris, but the color of the iris inside the ring has a dark ombre purple. The pupils are slit very narrowly, like a cat or dragon. The pupils can dilate a bit, but the more slit they are, the less control (or more outraged) a faerie is.
The last part I can think of is that a think smoke/magic lingers around the chest, other area, and above the horns. And then, yeah. So obviously, it would have not been an easy drawing for most. Heck, even the description above still makes it difficult to picture. Nevertheless, yfm helped bring the eeriness and creep factor to this type of monster.

So, with that in mind, what are your monsters?
