I don't like BM much either, but...
What I (often) don't like is the lyrical themes, the attitude and the 'on purpose' lo-fi aspect (I don't mind it so much if that's all the band can do because of context eg. lack of money or of adapted equipment in the region).
But I love BM vocals.
So I do like a lot when there are BM influences in prog metal, or also some blackened death metal (not too outrageous DM, I'm also easily tired (with exceptions) by exaggerate stuff even if it's good-humored.
Anyway, let's go back to my little scientific experiment: I'll give you three songs, you tell me if it's metal enough, and how/why etc (you obviously can also tell me if you find it horrible for other reasons, no prob, but my main focus is the metal aspect). I tried to find a little bit different things in term of how the metal aspects are incorporated. If you don't know the last one, no need to listen to the 20 minutes, 5 min should give a good idea.
(this Kayo Dot song is one of my 10 favorite metal songs ever but feel free to destroy it
)
