I've seen a lot of great threads on here about female characters (with it being International Women's Day) so I thought I'd toss this one out here! I LOVE Disney princesses (and non-princess heroines), but there are some characters that don't get the recognition they deserve!

This isn't necessarily your favorite Disney princess, but I'm going more for lesser-known or underrated Disney princesses (or heroines that aren't exactly princesses by title-such as Mulan or Megara). Feel free to add more than one if you can't decide! Include the Princess/Heroine name, movie they come from, and reason you think they deserve more recognition in the Disney Damsel line-up!

For me it's Esmerelda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. She often isn't pictured with the other characters, but her gorgeous character design, human empathy, boldness, and sense of justice put her in the top tier for me. And I remember getting chills when she sang "God Help the Outcasts".

The movie Princess and the frog is criminally underrated and so is its princess! Tiana has more character and resolve than most of the princesse and the representation was definitely nice (although race relations where shoved aside partially for a Rosey ending, buy I can't blame the creators for that. It's a kids movie after all.)

YES, Tiana is wonderful and I completely agree. She is one of the only princesses who works hard for a real tangible career goal. (The others have hopes/dreams) but I love and appreciate how career/driven and ambitious Tiana is. I would love to see more anything featuring this princess!

Tianna is mine, she is a hard worker and so determined. I love how people doubt her but she always believes in herself. She inspires me so much.

Princess Calla from "The Gummi Bears" series.

Yay! I LOVED Calla and this show! She is a fantastic princess. I loved her when I was kid! She was way cooler than Cavin.

hmmm
can
Meg aka Megara count as a lesser known Princess or..?

I know that she isn't exactly a princess but Mulan wasn't as well so.... Ima just do it anyways lol

Edit:

ima put Merida in as well because she is a wild spirit , and I love her character , she is a very Underrated Princess not fairly talk upon that much lol

Merida is fantastic! And I remember her being very well received. I remember going to DisneyWorld with my Mother In Law who is kind of a tomboyish country gal, and she was all enamored with Merida when she saw her in the parade.

I think the reasons of Merida being underrated is because the movie Brave is very good, but as Maxwell Lord declares, "it could be better!" Merida is a great princess unfortunately in a "good" movie. While the focus on Merida and her mother was a strong point in the film, the movie suffered from some pacing/cobbled narrative and the villain was a big dud in my opinion. But as person of Scottish Descent/not exactly gender conforming I loved this princess and she definitely deserves more fanfare!

Another One:

Being pregnant is not easy (From experience) and I'm sure this momma did not want to deal with her husband trying to rescue a llama prince while she was raising two other children. I don't even think there is a doll of her :unamused: and I never see her with the other Disney ladies.

I only saw this movie once, but I remember her being one of the more clever characters and having more common sense than the rest of the cast. (Her name is Chicha))
