I've been working on a webcomic, Intangibility, since March. It's on Webtoon. I never got a large audience (barely started promoting until last month), and it's now sitting around 24 subs and 16 chapters.
It's got a strange, indecipherable genre, but what's important is that it's a character driven story that eventually devolves into psychological horror. My most recent chapter was the first one that explored the horror side of things. There was torture, hanging, dismemberment, and a woman's shirt getting ripped off.... and yep. Got taken down. But it's not as simple as that.
The woman being killed was a robot. Yes, on the surface, she looked just like a human, but the "gore" was blue blood, and wires and mechanical parts for insides. Yes, the acts depicted were awful in theory, and it was supposed to be shocking for thematic reasons, but it in no way resembled anything real. As for the shirt being ripped off, it was all censored, her hair completely over her chest. And it wasn't depicted in a sexual way. All of this I just mentioned is building up to something that is key to the plot of the story, also. Which, imo, is not "gratuitous."
Also, my art style is extremely simple and polished and "shiny," not realistic at all, making everything look tame and cute. Everyone I talked to said it was very tame, compared to other stuff on Webtoon, even. So I'm sure if I emailed them, and made the case for why it should be put up again, they'd listen. But ugh, I don't want to go through that hassle every time. So tedious. I don't want to constantly worry about censorship, and the dumb way their website is set up. So I'm bringing it to Tapas.
I know that I'll have a very small audience, but I never had much of one to begin with. I care much, much more about writing a good story than I do about having an audience. And I want the new freedom that comes with less strict censorship, and I want to explore more ways to flesh out my comic without having to worry about that.
Any tips? First off, input on if what I described would be ok on this site? Assuming it will be, but I'd like to make sure.
What's the best way to advertise, and get my story out there?
And, importantly, how should I begin my re-upload? Should I stagger it, and if so, how much? I really don't want to stagger too much, since I want to go back to regular updates, and I hated staggering uploads on webtoon.
I absolutely adore my comic, and I want it to have a home. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! :))
