Let's be honest. Not everyone can do the bite-size thing perfectly. I, for one, tried to do that and my book became s h i ~ . I couldn't compress the chapters into 700-1000 words and ends up always having two-part chapters instead. It's not good for me, I swear. So, here's my question. On average, how many words/characters do your chapters have? If you use Word, how many pages does one chapter have, considering that the font size is 11 and there's no double space? How do you normally start your chapter and how do you end it?

For Start Again: With Only Ashes Left, the word count per chapter is usually anywhere between 4k and 5k, and occasionally gets down to 3k or up to 6k. It started out as a huge nightmare to divide them up in half or into thirds for the longer ones, but I've taken to going into them knowing exactly where I'm going to put the break and keeping them short enough that I don't need to split any into thirds anymore. I've even taken to writing both halves on different documents and copy pasting them together after I'm done. I use google docs, and they usually come out to ten pages at least.

For As Long As I'm Alive, I planned from the beginning to account for shorter chapters since I was tired of dealing with the character limit. Those chapters always come up to around 2.5k words, and while they get really close to the character limit, as long as I don't go overboard, I never have to shave anything down. Those come out to 6 or 7 pages on google docs.
