i have a "big"-ish comic on webtoons, with almost 150k subs, i used to have just under 600k monthly views on average, but over the last few months they have dropped first to 400k, then 300k, to last month just over 200k! and this month it looks like i won't even hit that! what is happening?

my likes and comments haven't changed basically at all, so this is not that suddenly everyone hates my story :frowning:

ive heard webtoons might have a secret "violators list" where they put creators that break the guidelines too much, and i have had a few strikes but it hasn't been anything too serious, and they have been far apart.. are they finally sick of me and im being ghosted?

has this happend to anyone else? and can i do something?
its not normal to drop basically 400k views in 4 months..im really worried..

Yeah, my views have dropped a lot too  I just figured there isn't anything else I can do about it so I just left it alone, but my self conscious definitely took a hit lol

I'm not sure, but it might be that a younger part of the webtoon community is having final exams at this period in time due to high school and stuff. They might be studying instead of reading. So maybe that's why that demographic is less active at the moment.

But that's just me thinking

i have been quite alot on the front page for the past year.. but it usually just gives my view a boost, not the other way around D:

completely unrelated but...
200k views on webtoon is a small amount?!

compared to 600k :stuck_out_tongue:
its actually alot..but i do this for a living so i need more ^^;

Yeah, back when I had to do final exams I did have to do preparations a few months before they actually took place. Though that may just have been my school

I didn’t know about that, also what do you mean break the guidelines, like, what kind of violations and what are the consequences did they give you warning or something?

its been for "nudity" and "sexual explicit content" last time it was a chibi with a boner(in pants) and the time before that it was a speech bubble that said "harder"

I've never heard of a 'violators list', though to be fair, I'm quite new at this. Have you had any front page features since you've noticed your views started dropping?

If you haven't been promoted by them recently, the drop in views may be due to a drop in new binge readers. If you have fewer new readers coming in, seeing your comic for the first time, and reading it all, that will translate to a big drop in page views.

I just got on the front page for the first time, and even with only 10 episodes, my page views just exploded. By my standards. :sweat_02: Looking at the numbers, it seems like, of my now 1.9k subs, most of them read all 10 episodes. (Because 1.5k of those subs are brand new.) The math doesn't quite work, because these stats only account for the US, but I think it's indicative of what a whole bunch of new readers look like in terms of pageview stats.

Unless you're pulling in a steady stream of new readers, your page views should sit somewhere around your number of subscribers x the number of new episodes you post in a month. (Realistically, it's probably a little less than that, since not every subscriber is an active reader.) So, if you have 150k subs, and you post twice a month, around 300k page views would be pretty normal.

Again, looking at my numbers, I had around 350 subs for the 'last month' period. 350 x 3 = 1050. Add the binge-reading of the 40-or-so new readers I picked up in that timeframe, and we're not far off.

If your likes and comments haven't changed, that indicates your subscribers are still being alerted to new episodes. In which case, the drop in views is likely due to new viewers drying up.

I really wish WEBTOON gave us better stats, so we could figure out these changes and discrepancies without having to play wild guessing games. But, alas. We can only get really good at reading between the lines.

I’m sorry if this is a bit off topic but when you got promoted did your views get almost ten folds of your usual view, is that what i’m reading here?

Remember that views tend to universally lower around school finals months, ie May/June or December/January, so that may play a part.

not really! the one time i was on the big thing at the top of the front page they did! i was there for 3 days i think and that month i had over 2 millions views :stuck_out_tongue: but that was yeeeears ago..

so normally i think im almost always featured somewhere, if not on the front page, then in recommendations under other comics, or something like that.. but when i was on the front page my views went up with about 100k?

Yep! Having only 10 episodes up really helps keep the maths simple, haha. Numbers make my head hurt. From what I'm seeing, a good portion of the people who clicked my thumbnail subbed (my all-time views are about 22k, and with 10 episodes at a shade under 2k subs, that's pretty dang close), and many of those who subbed must have read through the story up to where it's at now.

I'd sell a kidney to find out what the view count looks like on my first episode in comparison to my latest. That'd give me a way more accurate insight as to what these numbers actually indicate regarding viewer retention.

It's such a guessing game with WEBTOON, but there are still some valuable insights we can pull from the little slice of statistics they give us.

Hopefully I helped a little!

I’ve never made a webtoon before so i don’t really know about the statistics let alone the statistics of authors who have been promoted so this is a precious information. Thanks a lot i wish both of you that your comic will keep getting more and more views. :hype_01:

I didn't know squat about 'em until a week ago either, haha. Mine is my first webcomic as well. :sweat_02:

And thanks! Same to you, when yours launches.

Do you think maybe the episodes with video ad has something to do with it? Like readers are tired of watching ads to be able to read and they decided to put your comic aside for a while?

I’m just speculating I have no idea what it could be.

well that would suck... i upload one normal and one with ads every time i post.

and the episodes with ads are so people can read ahead..im not putting anything behind an ad-wall..
