I don't know if any of you used this website, but I just thought I'd write a public service announcement regarding its imminent demise. If you've got anything saved on your NaNoWriMo account that you want to keep, I'd suggest backing it up before their servers shut down.

For anyone who is curious and wishes to dive down the same rabbit hole I did, here's a comprehensive overview of the events leading up to the shutdown.

damn. i've done nanowrimo the last few years and it was the only thing that truly motivated me to write. this whole situation sucks : / will have to backup my info later

That is a long list of controversy. Yet it still feels like an end to an era

What a list; all I knew before was their stance on Ai and the bullshit they spouted near the tail end of last year and lost all respect and care for the company. Good riddance.

Wow! End of an Era... but i also agree good riddance T.T

I never used it but after hearing about the previous scandals and now how they didn’t mind Ai usage ,makes me happy I never did.

For the longest time, I didn’t know there was an organisation behind NaNoWriMo. I always thought it was a challenge based around a month like inktober or a new year resolution but for November. (Although, looking into it, there's also an organization for inktober.)

On the bright side, you can still do a similar challenge next November, but without the official™ NaNoWriMo org. That’s what I did last time, write 50k words for a web novel in a month.
