Need Advice on my Background

So here's my background for a random thing i'm doing. A simple test on what i can do for a black and white comic. I'm trying ominous yet simple. I'd like to know if i'm missing anything or doing something wrong for a "not completely realistic, but mostly there" style.

It's a snowy trail with trees around. That may be obvious but i put this description down here to keep you on your toes in case you didn't see it at first glance.

Anyways, the background needs to match my drawing style. Here's a sample so you can see my lines.

I appreciate any specifics you may wanna give me. I'm not changing the drawings but i would change the background.

Edit: I mean, i'm not changing the drawing style but i would add anything else if you think it'll help match the works.

I think it looks really good for the most part!
I might just add some emphatic lines in the background to tie it in closer with your figure drawings, like so.

There's something computer-generated in the way it looks. I like your values and the composition is basically good. Perhaps toy with perspective a bit more.

Oh, that's perfect!

Since you have a very clear source of light in that scene, you can also use the shadows to generate perspective, if you don't like lines in the background for some reason.

(Not exactly like this maybe, but I hope get the idea)

Or you can just use both the line and the shadows and get something similar to this:

Whatever does it four you.

It's just a matter of adding something that creates detail and a bigger illusion of perspective, because everything else is pretty allright, and your drawing style is also very detailed and realistic, so it fits nicely imo.

@Adeca You're right. Looking at it, it adds not only a layer of perspective but also that ominous tone i was looking for.

@JRHoch That's what i kept thinking, but in the back of my head i was always keeping in mind the simplicity of the technique. I hope these guys made the concept a bit less generated.

The shadows really pulled it together!

Since you seem to use hatching to indicate shadows on your characters, adding some to the background as well could help it match.

Trees have thin branches. Use a digital brush that gives you fine lines to add accents or a stray leaf. Put a tree way to the foreground, show the bark. Don't be afraid to use a brush the gives a little texture.
