Okay, so I made a post about this a few weeks ago, but I finally decided to just go along with it!
With all these contests for Tapas and Webtoons coming up, everyone’s scrambling to perfect their existing stories and come up with new ones. So, I’m offering my skills to help people develop and edit their novels and comics.
Why am I qualified to do this?
Well, for starters, I did go to Ringling College of Art and Design and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Illustration. Art is completely subjective, so I’m not going to say that I’m a “great artist” as I’m sure some would disagree, but I did study it for 4 years in a variety of different styles. I studied figure drawing, storyboarding, painting, color theory, etc. And my senior thesis was a 100-page comic.
And for those wondering why I’m also offering editing for writers, well, even though my degree was in Illustration, I had a minor in Creative Writing. I attended lectures and was in classes taught by professional writers such as Sandra Markle and Rob Sanders, and was an apprentice to Ryan Van Cleave who has written many how-to writing books.
I also was an assistant teacher to Ryan’s Creative Writing pre-college class for two years, and was a writing consultant at Ringling’s Academic Resource Center for two years, so I do have experience in editing scripts, short stories, children’s books, and essays.
But, I know talk is cheap, so I have links to my own webcomic “My New Friend is a Cat”, my online art portfolio, and the first 25 pages of my unpublished novel “Revvy Lemon” just so you can get a taste of my abilities put into action. Those links will be at the end of this post.
Now, let’s talk about payment and services. Obviously I’m not going to do this for free, but I know that we’re all broke here, so I’m trying to make the prices as low as I can. All payments will be made through PayPal, so make sure you have one or can get one (it’s really not too hard to set one up).
Okay, so here’s an outline of my rates and services:
-Developmental Editing:
-This consists of phone calls, emails, Discord, or Skype Chats to help with story development, plot development, character development, world building, or all of the above.
-Rates go by an hourly basis in terms of conversation. $1.50 an hour.
-Client is expected to provide an outline of what development they’ve done so far, or have a list of themes and genres they wish for their story to be about.
-I will not make up a story for you, you must have some kind of idea of what you want beforehand, or else we’ll slip into the territory of sharing rights to the idea.
-We can talk for as many hours as you’d like, across as many days as you’d like, at whatever time you’d like as long as we schedule it beforehand so I can plan accordingly.
-You must give me time (preferably a day) to read over what you already have done so I can have some notes ready before our conversation.
-Proof Reading:
This consists of checking writing for grammar mistakes and spelling errors.
For Writing:
-Rates go by word count. $0.003 per word. (30 cents per 100 word).
-If you would like me to also give suggestions on how to better the work (aka: editor’s notes), that’ll cost an extra fee of 10 cents per 100 words.
For Comics:
-Rates go by a page-by-page basis. 50 cents per page. (For webcomics that use panels instead of pages, 3 panels = 1 page).
-If you would like me to also give suggestions on how to better the writing, art, or composition (aka: editor’s notes), that’ll cost an extra fee of 10 cents per page.
So, if you’re interested, mildly interesting, basically any kind of interested send me a PM or an email at blackrose108.mail@gmail.com.
