New Anime series based on Popular Webtoons/webcomic! (Tower of God, Noblesse, God of High School)

Out of the 9+ crunchyroll original titles that were announced, 3 of them are based on webcomics on Webtoon!

It's incredible to think how these series were able to get a full anime adaptations.

I think they were also making Lore Olympus into an animated series too.

Such an exciting day for webcomics! I wish my comic can one day be like this...XD

I'm kind of waiting on Lore Olympus more than the rest. Tower of God wasn't my cup of tea, and while I'm so happy for webcomics to finally get BIG recognition and not just the odd ones out like One Punch Man, it's still a bit far from getting my hopes up for western adaptations until the former really makes it big.

The fact that Freakangels is among them is pretty rad because while Warren Ellis is a decently well known comics writer who's done some well-respected work for Marvel, he's not that famous. That's strange, I thought The God of High School was animated some time ago?? More correctly I think I thought there is anime and then I discovered it on Webtoons a year ago. Huh.
I dunno about Lore Olympus though. It's nice and I follow it, but there is hardly any plot happened to make a full season of anime on my opinion.

Yeah, but he's not like... a household name like Alan Moore. Like people who aren't big into comics; casual readers or most manga readers probably don't know him. I know who he is, but I literally have a copy of Nextwave: Agents of HATE that I got signed by him because I'm a massive comics nerd. Ellis is a pro that people who are passionate about comics know about,
but other people probably aren't aware of, and that's a pretty feasible level of notoriety for most people like us to aim for and potentially achieve. Paul Duffield is a name you probably literally only know if you go to comics events in the UK and he's a personal friend I chat to on discord and consider a "peer". That's why I think it's exciting; because it means something like this maybe isn't implausible for somebody like me.

I feel like there's more people foaming at the mouth in half-exaggerated rage at High Guardian Spice than anyone actually interested in high guardian spice.

I was on the fence about it (seemed cute but typical) but now I'm dedicated at checking it out and judging it on its own merits 100%, because the calockbaity neckbeard hatedom circling around this show like a flock of vultures has ticked me off enough.

Ellis is definitely Mount Rushmore of British Invasion writers! (Moore,Gaiman,Morrison and Ellis...I love Ennis but he's in the Crazy Horse Memorial slot. Fight me nerds!)

I can agree with @darthmongoose that he's lesser known than the other three but not because the bulk/quality of work. He just never really "weaponized" his persona enough in the U.S. market enough to make that next leap in fame.

He has been a consistent star maker for his artist collaborators, something the other Brits don't do as much IMO. Hitch soaked up all the THE AUTHORITY love and rolled into THE ULTIMATES. Cassady did the same with PLANETARY. Declan Shalvey got the rub off that excellent MOON KNIGHT re-imagining.

I think barring any new upcoming exciting works, he needs someone in Hollywood to make TRANSMETROPOLITAN their passion project and cast the fuck out of Spider Jerusalem (I lean James McAvoy but there's a dozen great choices). Then ride that comet cowboy !

PS: Freakangels is ONLY one I care about out of that group of adaptations.

Eh the main criticism was having a western show marketed as anime on Crunchyroll, kinda like a few works where it became 'if you don't absolutely love this, you hate X minority'. However, the hatedom is certainly unwarranted; it doesn't look very fun to me but there's plenty of meh shows out there that I don't make a fuss about for not being specifically for my enjoyment. And if Crunchyroll ended up selling a show that their audience won't even notice is there because it's not anime, well then, their loss.

Let's not beat around the bush, people that went 'eh it's not for me' and left aren't the ones flocking the comments, it's the ones screaming at the mere notion of a 100% female staff.

...Kinda wonder how many are going to find out these non-physical comics are becoming anime rather than their X favorite manga and will get really mad, to stay on topic.

You mean High Guardian Spice? That's been ongoing thing for a while since that was announced years ago.

Okay the one thing I'll admit about High Guardian Spice is that it's initial marketing was abysmal. While it is stupid how many people are raking it against the coals for it boasting about it's diverse staff, it was not a smart move to announce the series with simply talking about their staff and zero content of the actual show to promote.

Had they kept it under wraps and announced it's existence alongside all of these fan favorite webcomics, I feel that the hate wouldn't have been as focused and large. It would still be there because the clickbaity YT Neckbeards need all the content to screech about they can get, but not nearly as large.

God it was, with the drama I did end up get curious enough to look up the art and that was 5 minutes for someone that actually likes that style miss the show entirely. The Dragon Prince, even though there's also production problems according to some ex-staff and I'm not watching it either, did this much better by having both the promo material, the trailers, then stuff about having LGBT+ content once you were already looking for it in social media, while it was making the rounds. Maybe now with this trailer almost 1-2 years later High Guardian Spice got a chance to find some new fans, but it's a risk.

@bakasama25 yeah, I remember the original internet meltdown. But as the internet goes, everyone forgot until this trailer appeared.

I'm happy to see Noblesse in there. I watched one-off episodes (I think they're called ONAs?) some years ago and was sad there wasn't more. I didn't know it was a webcomic at the time. It'll be nice to see a series of it. I'm not familiar with those other shows but I've heard people be very excited about Tower of God so I'm going to check that out too if I get the chance.

Diverse staff my ass. That was the world's most awful way to announce a show, if they have just say what the show was about with bits of animations it would not have gotten the hate. I dont think it would do well if it came out unless it completely does something completely unexpected. Because to me it seems rather an bland magical girl style western cartoon, but Once again I could be wrong.
