New Sci-fi/Fantasy Series Seeking Similar Reads

That title sounds a bit like a dating ad or something huh? Moving on.

I have published my Sci-fan webcomic, The 1st Rule. If you like vaguely military settings, possessed robots, magic, healthy relationships, people working actually through their problems, conspiracy theorists, strong friendships given as much weight as the romances and vivid expansive world that blends science and magic, you might wanna check it out.

And now I have published I can finally get onto my reading list that I've been putting off until publishing as a reward. And I would like to find some more. So, if you have a Sci-fi, Sci-fan or more modern Fantasy (sorry classic LOTR types, it just doesn't do it for me very often) involving some of the things mentioned above, or can recommend some, feel free to let me know. I'm not fussy about style or novel or comic.

Thank you! Haha, yeah that's just Eric. Not that there aren't some interesting emotional relationships with robots as it progresses. Some of these sentient robots get a little too attached, that's the problem with making them sentient. They get feelings. And these pilots get a little too attached sometimes in return. And beyond that there's Justin and Dennis later who are certainly interesting and go a bit further. (Gotta stop myself before I rant the entire story, why am I so bad for spoilers).

You have a wonderful art style. Wow. And I'm so down for some depression. I love some nice realistic themes to work through. I said stuff for my reading list but as always I've found something pretty I'm going to binge it all in one sitting.Thank you for the recommendation!

heres mine, the setting is a post high fantasy world that went through a technology boom. vampires set off in an airship to find a way to turn themselves human again. theres also some death robots built to hunt them lurking around.

I think this comic will be perfect for you! It's a story about a girl living in a desert planet with her guardians. She lives her life by scavenging with one of them and selling stuff at the city with another. Until one day she takes the reckless decision to go to the most dangerous part of the city, and gets herself and those close to her in loads of trouble. It's gonna have 14 chapters and I post once every 2 days, so stay tuned!

@keii4ii Broken definitely looks right up my street, darker themes and psychological stuff is definitely a plus. Thank you!

At least there are enough signs that anyone not ready for a shower scene can back out (and I will take any excuse to draw Damien topless, my precious freckly child). Thank you! And also thank you! I actually read through yours a little while back before I joined the site and couldn't refind it because I couldn't remember the name. You screentone work is so lovely.

@ghostieblu Gosh your character designs are super cute. Your style reminds me something super nostalgic I can't quite put my finger on and the lighting is super nice. I'm really interested to see where it goes.

I recently started a dark fantasy comic. Dunno if it's 'modern' enough but there's some morally ambiguous main characters and spicy action scenes to come.

@Samuraiflame Thank you! It looks interesting! I do love some angels and demons and morally ambiguous is always a nice slant to take with a story lots of the main stream seems a little afraid of at times. Definitely interested. What I generally mean by more modern is "not another LOTR or GOT please" which actually doesn't seem to be as much of a problem here as it is in other parts of the internet.

Your comic does sound pretty interesting, I'm not a big fan of romance but every other single element seems right up my alley so if they're strong enough, I'll probably stick around.

My own comic is Sci-fi, (really) vaguely militar and focused on character relationships (but not romantic), so I'd say it's similar enough, take a look if you're interested.

@GalacticPotato Thanks! I hope everything else is strong enough. I love a good romantic subplot, as long as it stay subplot and doesn't get in the way of plot (unless its romance genre ofc) so hopefully gonna avoid that. Most of my couples are actually pretty established so it's not the flirting falling in love getting together kinda romance here anyway. In fact Eric and Isaak have been together for coming on 6 years at this point and I think that helps avoid romantic melodrama getting in the way of the plot. And I'm also a huge fan of friendships being as important as romance so there's lots of that. (wow sorry for the ramble)

Thanks for the rec. I was a bit put off by the bright colours right at the start but I'm glad I pushed on and gave it a chance. The style isn't quite my thing but it's not going to get in the way (and wow I adore Harry). Definitely going to keep reading.

I've never been the kind who swaps false positives. And I'm definitely the type who puts substance over style. Your comic hits enough positive interesting story points to have my attention, even if the style isn't quite my jam. I've definitely enjoyed what I've read so far.
