Four teenagers, each so different from the other, struggle with their inner demons and live their daily lives:
One rejects any weakness, denial disguising the burden they carry
One works hard to achieve someone else's dream, ignoring their own ambitions
One dreams of doing something meaningful with their life
One has no goals or dreams, just drifting along with the days
If life had just stayed the same, these four may never have met. But, of course, life is never that simple. When forces out of their control threaten their lives and those around them, it falls to these four to determine how the story goes. They'll have to rely on each other and the ones they want to protect, or they will fail and lose everything.
1.) Which of your characters are you most attached to and why?
While I adore all of my main four, I've got to say that Kestrel and Basilisk hold a special place. They're the two I enjoy writing the most, even though they're drastically different. When I started to write Basilisk, he seemed a little stiff to me, so I gave him some of my habits. Not like a self-insert, but some of my quirks and qualities that helped me flush him out as his own character. With Kestrel, I never would have guessed that I would like her! She's so different from myself or any of the other characters, but her chapters were my favorite to write. This came as a complete surprise and I couldn't be happier about it!
2.) Do you remember what triggered/influenced you to come up with your story?
About two or three years back, I was just in a slump. I couldn't find anything that I enjoyed reading or watching, I was constantly bored, and I just couldn't get motivated for everyday things. While trying to force myself to enjoy a book I've must have read four times in a row, I finally snapped and thought I should come up with something! That very minute, I had pulled out a school notebook and started jotting down the first ideas that came to my head, and a good few of them made it into my novel. I'd worked on the story on and off for the past few years and it's been one of my favorite things I've ever done!
3.) Which novel on Tapas, other than your own, did you really enjoy?
Recently, I've been enjoying Grotheske by @LordLacroix
