The Small Town Horror is a modern fantasy/mystery web novel set in small-town Australia.
Dexter is a clueless medium who doesn't realise that his 'skill' is a branch of Death Magic and thinks it's a natural gift. He was taught mediumship by his Gran an underground magic-user who gave him highly filtered knowledge of magic. After years of viewing the magic world through clouded glass Dexter turns his back on his ability to become a librarian and live a normal life.
Two years after he is forced to return to his home town a near-death experience shatters the barrier between him and the magical community. Dexter discovers that his new husband/life long friend is a mage. When Dexter's secret is revealed he is forced to start training to work as an Exorcist for the magical law enforcement agency part-owned by his family.
Against all common sense and advice, he starts to investigate a cold case because the victim reminds him of his friend. He soon finds himself following in the steps of his dead grandpa who tried to solve the murder forty years before in his job as a detective.
Surely those rumours about someone wanting to abduct a medium/necromancer unconnected to the greater magical community are baseless.
