Hi there!
I know many artists/ webcomic creators have a Kofi or Patreon, but I haven't met a fellow novelist who has either one.

I would like to make one but I'm on the fence since I don't know what I would offer to my supporters. The only "content" that I could come up with is maybe early access to my chapters that I post on tapas and perhaps deleted versions of my novels...? :grimacing: I honestly couldn't think of anything else, tbh.:sob:

As a novelist, what's your experience thus far with using either Patreon or Kofi? What kind of content do you provide for your supporters? Do you think it's worth having one? :open_mouth:

These are good questions KUUPID.
In addition to what you listed, you could offer exclusive content like a patreon only novel/ short stories/side stories, illustrations from your works, discord, wips etc.
I do have a patreon and ko-fi but no membership tiers as I am also on the fence about it.
All the best, whichever way you choose to go.

I recently created one and you can offer whatever you want honestly. Currently, I'm offering early access to new chapters, WIP updates and special patreon exclusive chapters. You could also offer patron shoutouts and give them the chance to talk to you

I have ko-fi, patreon is a lot more work and I'm just not bothering with membership for now. I guess it's that I don't have that much time to dedicate to it, and well I'm also trying to dip my toes into game development and it's kind of why I thought about using Ko-Fi.And also, I think in general, early access, extra stuff and I think I'm continuing to give spoiler updates for what the future would bring. Like no holds barred kind of thing.

I have been pondering this too. I've been working on building a bit of a following before setting anything up.

One thing I have noticed for a few different patreons I have looked at, is that it is okay to have a low tier ($1) that doesn't offer extra content, just shout outs and discord access.

I have a Patreon! My tiers range from a $1 donation tier that just allows access to special announcements, all the way up to a $15 tier that offers live Q&As and exclusive character/behind the scenes content.
A big draw for paid content is NSFW scenes not included on Tapas. I also do monthly short stories, with SFW and NSFW versions. And of course advanced reading is a good option too!
I also have a Patreon exclusive novel which only updates there (though it will shift to just being very far ahead when I decide what site I want to host it on).

I'm a bit sketch on updates so I don't have a ton of patrons, but my collab partner is more reliable and had a good following there!

Definitely worth it if you're willing to put in the work!

Haha, same here! I'm still a bit hesitant since I don't know if any of my readers would consider it :persevere:

I never thought about having a patreon/ kofi exclusive novel. xD That's def going on my list since I have a bunch of short stories that I could offer

It's quite fun, so far I haven't explored it but you can have a shop, membership tiers and also offer commissions so that's a huge draw. For now, I'm just using the typical Ko-Fi.
