I recently started posting my novel, and I wanted to share a little about my heroine, Lin Xuanzhao.
I created Lin Xuanzhao out of my lifelong love for strong female characters—heroines like Mulan, Éowyn, Brienne of Tarth, and Tsunade, who were fierce, memorable, and full of heart.
Xuanzhao may be a genius in war strategy and martial arts, the kind of woman who could become a legend in an ancient wuxia world, but she is still human. She has insecurities, moments of anxiety, and times when she doubts herself.
She also cannot read, and in modern terms, some of what she experiences may resemble dyslexia. That part of her was important for me to write because I wanted to create a heroine who could be both powerful and vulnerable, exceptional and deeply human.
I hope you’ll enjoy reading about Lin Xuanzhao as much as I’ve loved bringing her to life in this novel.
