Oi! I'm crowdfunding my psychedelic fantasy comic about bards and idols in ancient Ireland

Hi tapas! For the past 10 years I have been working off and on on my psychedelic fantasy comic Oi! Tales of Bardic Fury about bards druids and idols in ancient Ireland. It is inspired by DnD, mythology, and the modern music industry. The comic is not historically accurate, but it's heavily influenced by Irish mythology and culture. There are currently over 700 pages out and volume 3 just wrapped up.
The story is set in pre-Patrick 360 AD Ireland and follows the story of a bard-in-training named Bryan who gets sent to a village by the sea called Oi that never heard music. Once he gets there, he runs in to the hippy cult leader druid Star Seal, his selkie daughter Rhiannon, and his other daughter Aideen who is the village hurling captain and hates outsiders with a murderous passion. Bardic Fury ensures.

Your Irish? Ahh! Yay! I have an Irish character in my comic!

It’s my steampunk superhero comic called Elsie and the character I’m talking about is an inventor named Ernest McDermott.

I am not even Irish, or one of those Americans who claims distant Irish ancestry! I am genetically not Irish at all. I started out wanting to make a comic about bards and druids. I love history. Originally I was going to set the comic in an imaginary fantasy land before I decided to set it in the real world. Wales and Ireland seemed to be the places that bardic culture flourished the most, but Wales was romanized early and I wanted to do a story where the Romans weren't so prominent. Not that I have anything against Romans, but I have read lots of comics with them and wanted to do something different. The story is set in 360 AD, pre-Patrick times. I love all world mythology, but did not know much about Irish myth before starting the comic so I took it as an opportunity to deep dive and research it. The story so far has focused on Irish myth, but part 2 I am going to send the band on a mediterranean tour and it will focus on other mythologies like Greek, Egyptian and Phoenician.

Why thank you. I’m American as well and I have a wee sliver of Irish in my blood. (Specifically 2%) It doesn’t matter though really but I wrote my character Ernest to be Irish because the steampunk story I’m making takes place in England and let’s just say his people went through a lot of sh*t from the English.

I started researching about Irish culture and it’s music that I’ve loved since high school. Celtic music is my jam! Whenever I’m feeling sad I always listen to it to feel better. Anyway back to Ernest. I love studying history as well so Elsie has been a feast for me when it came to historical clothing, inventions, culture and many other things. It’s nice to know someone who also loves history.

I started listening to Irish trad music in middle school myself. Dubliners, Pogues and Luke Kelly are my favorites.
