Soooo...... I actually kind of like the Boruto manga. Um, I never finished Naruto the manga nor the anime and haven't seen any Boruto anime and the Boruto manga had a LOT of bad chapters to say the least....
But it's actually been pretty good recently now that they've been focusing more on battle and Naruto kicking butt. But that seems to be about it for what's good. The kids aren't very interesting characters. ._.
The manga has been... really bad. Before the anime, I decided to check it out and binge read it and it was so incredibly generic and boring. I'm still keeping up with the manga because it's there and it's just a clusterfk. I think they really should have done the manga as a collab with a professional writer because I think the story is just too much for the artist alone. But the art IS REALLY good. Extremely detailed, beautiful, and a nice style.
Let me tell you a tale... This is about my OTS (one true series). Back when I was a wee teenager I discovered and fell in love with a show that even back then nobody heard of, Senkaiden Houshin Engi. I watched the anime via one of the few ways to watch back then - Chinese bootleg DVDs with god awful quality and subtitles. The original anime is 26 episodes and does some things differently from the manga and near the end does its own thing and has its own alternate ending. The manga continues on for many volumes afterwards and has a solid ending. Regardless, the original anime is a decent watch with a decent story.
Two years ago, suddenly a NEW anime was announced for Houshin Engi out of absolutely nowhere! I was incredibly excited since this manga I love was one of those series making a comeback. I followed news and seeing announcements made it seemed like it was going to be a perfect adaptation. I was worried about all new voice actors (since the original had some of my favorites such as Yuuki Hiro, Ishida Akira, Chiba Susumu, and Kakazu Yumi) but as they announced the new VA's I would say "THIS VA IS PERFECT!!" Who better to replace Ishida Akira's character than Toriumi Kousuke after all?!
The animation from the PVs looked beautiful and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was announced to be doing the opening! Everything was PERFECT! I was so excited!!
And then the first episode happened.
And everything... all hopes... all dreams... came crashing down in a fiery blaze. Perhaps no story has ever been so butchered. I looked into it a bit and found that the person who does the story planning... is renowned in the industry to be incredibly, incredibly bad at it. The story, what was there of it, was so unwatchable. Even as a fan, I don't know how I finished it. My poor husband who knew nothing of the story struggling to watch it too as nonsense after nonsense happened. Even as a fan and knowing the whole story, it was difficult to follow and know what was going on because it jumped around so much. They cut out the BIGGEST turns in the story and completely cut out the final boss. They went from defeating one mid boss to skipping to the very last scene possible and then just ending.
Sorry this was so long but... I am very sad.
At least now I'm playing the mobile game which is decent and covers MUCH more of the story.
