I actually put the first one in the toxic trope category. Actually, I put most of them there, especially the women in refrigerators trope, female character motivated/defined by past sexual abuse, and the foreigners speaking only broken English trope there, too, because of sexism and racism.
But the first one is a plain old insult to the readers' intelligence. We know about trademarks and what it takes to maintain the trademark on an intellectual property like a fictional character, especially in a long-running franchise. You have to use the character or the trademark lapses. So we know that the character's going to be brought back. Legally, in one way or another, it has to happen.
And time and time again since the Death of Superman, the major companies think we'll buy it.
