Omake? Are cute bonus stories good?

Hello! I haven't been around the forums in a very long time, but I'm still working on writing for a side project and this question came to mind; 'Do people still like omake/extra stories?' It's more of a general question that I anyone can answer, give their opinion on and/or talk a little about their process!

Personally I'm hoping to add simple bits between side characters that I think are interesting! Since I like to see the mundane side of things, something like how two characters spend their lunch hour, or what their odd quirks are that you don't get to see in the main story line (due to not being extremely relevant to the plot). Or maybe even a little omake on a small part of the main story that didnt get expanded on because it wasn't important to be in the main update/chapter!

What are some thoughts you have on omake, have you made one(or more) for your work, what are some preferences that you have and do you think that there could be too many? (in case that my summary was too confusing these are some base questions! ^o^)

I personally like them as breaks between chapters. I plan on having some of them in my own series between chapters, and I've seen it used very successfully in other comics. I don't think it confuses people at all, I think it's a fun way of having character interactions that may not necessarily happen in the proper story, but still serve to flesh out personalities or relationships. Or even if it's just for a bit of a laugh!

I wouldn't do too many, personally. I would definitely limit it to breaks between chapters, and even then more than a couple might make people impatient for a "real" update.

I actually love omake with all my heart. ^^ I love to read them, anyway...making them is another story. I did one for a recent comic, and although it was cute, I had basically zero motivation left at that point. 6_6;

I guess my advice would be to draw/write as many as you can handle; readers like myself will eat them up~

Id like to see omakes (short comics) in between chapters, they give a fresh air of breathe especially if there's too much that have happened in the story. Some omakes I find cute are when the author makes a what-if /behind the scene situation of one scene in the recent chapter ^^

I plan on adding omakes after chapters but most of the extra contnent that looks at the other characters' relationships would be put into a nonchronological mini-series.

I love them <3 I'm all in for extra interactions between the characters, that kind of stuff gives me life lmao.

For that same reason I'm adding them to my comic. I did a couple little extras in between chapter one and two and I have a whole list full of ideas for more mini chapters to come x'D seriously, love them.

I guess some people will just be in for the main story...? But I doubt they'll mind an update from time to time with extra stuff c:

I think my entire Blue Life is one big Omake?
There is no main plot but just characters doing stuff.

Then I made a small side story for the Inksgiving where they all race against each other.

And also a complete spinoff where one of the characters has made a Tapas profile to create his own comic, and also appears here in the forum. He is here as @redfrombluelife

Perhaps I one day might make a main story with them. But I enjoy the random universe where they just do stuff and interact with themself and the readers.

I like them, if they are not too mawkish.
I particularly remembered funny little scenes with chibi at the end of each Hellsing Ultimate OVA's.
I was surprised when I've seen the first of them.
But it's brutal anime. So it doesn't hurt to see something more light at the end of episodes. But it the creative work is cute itself, I don't understand, what omakes are for

Absolutely. You get a side of the characters you don't usually see.

As an author, I personally love to write them. In fact, I'm more or less regularly writing one as specials for days like Valentine's or Christmas.

As a reader ... it actually depends on the main story. If I feel good with the ending (like, it feels 'finished' to me), I might not even check the extras. Sometimes I do return after a while to check them even if I do though. But I don't read them for everything.

just replace your ordinary comic with omakes. keeping them as sidestories is a deep state conspiracy
