Opinion of NSFW scenes?

What are your thoughts on adult scenes in comic? Do they elevate the story and makes it more relatable? Or just plain annoying fanservice? :U

Depends on the context and presentation? And there's a lot in between those options :P. If it's smut, I wouldn't exactly say that the adult scenes elevate the comic or make it relatable necessarily lol - but they're an essential component.

It definitely depends.

I don't class NSFW as "just" sexual content, but the most literal meaning of the letters; not safe for work. So that's nudity, violence, gore, and depending on your workplace it could even be queer couples. I don't mean to facetious, but I think that it's important to remember.

Personally, it depends on the context like Migxmeg said. I find the psychological component of adult scenes/smut to be incredibly interesting, but otherwise I find romance lukewarm at best (lol).
I'm a bit worried about web censorship as of late, so I'd say everything has a place... just not usually near me.

Unless it's the theme of the story or it comes and affects the plot down the line, you don't need it. I'd prefer if comics just cut down on it because it's just like "I really don't need to see all this. You can just have them kiss and cut to the bed".

I totally understand personally not liking sex scenes but would argue that the texture and flavor stuff that is not needed for plot is the stuff that really makes a story.

Depends on what are you reading, really. If the scene is needed in the script, go for it. It can help, and of course its not forbidden because, well, humans have sex (among other NSFW activities) so its an important thing to don't leave out just to appear nice and safe.
BUT if its overused, as any other resource, its just fanservice, unneeded, and unuseful. The other day I happened to see a BL graphic novel that had a lot of work on it. Nice drawings, colors, the script on the drama part was nice, but the dude -who was new in the neighbourhood- had in 3 days sex like 5 times, and masturbated himself between those times, and I was like -is this porn, or a drama/slice of life? It seemed to me that playing at having it all leave you with nothing in the end.
Maybe if I kept reading all have sense, but the mix was like screaming to me 'buy me for more sex, and maybe a nice drama thing'.

i think it's totally fine as long as it isnt overdone, to me it makes no sense that you shouldnt include it just because it 'isnt needed' because a lot of sfw stuff isnt needed but people put it in anyways. as long as it fits, why not put it in. now im not saying throw it in just because lol but hey why not, just give people a warning ahead of time and it should be fine depending on the story

The truth is that it depends, because sometimes I think they go too far, but everyone is free to draw the images they want as long as they don't draw minors or when there are scenes that are too strong. if you understand me.

The truth, I'm not the one to question whether it should be used or not.

I think it depends on the type and tone of the story. I feel like I have seen sex scenes/nudity used in the most inappropriate places in comics and it just puts me off to the whole thing. But I have also read comedy comics with raunchy themes and I was OK with it, maybe because that is what was set up from the beginning.

I think I generally prefer it not to be used in a cheap fanservice way. I think I would prefer if any nudity used was in a non-sexual way. Like how it is in Watchmen or Kirikou.

Depends on context, but even if it's there just to be "spicy" as long as it's tagged do whatever you want.
I don't really like to read that type of stuff ( i prefer sweet fluffy romance tbh) ,that being said, spicy stuff isn't only thing is NSFW category, there is also gore, violence ,etc...

I'll assume you're mainly talking about "spicy" scenes. Tbh, they're just so awkward. Like, two characters are making out, or something even more mature, and I'm just there feeling like a peeping tom while waiting for the plot to continue. Don't get me wrong, I like romance and such but like, but reading intimate scenes between characters it's just so uncomfortable, it feels like I'm breaking into their privacy. And yes I know they're fictional but it still feels weird...

LOL, jokes aside, only if it means something to the characters or story. If it's just there and is full on porn, unless that comic is a porn comic, I don't want to see it.
