I was somehow sucked into #writingcommunity on twitter and have since received a relatively steady stream of new followers. They constantly make #writerlift posts, which are essentially mass "everybody follow everybody" threads, which I benefit from despite half-hearted participation.
The reason my participation is half-hearted is because the vast majority of these people are WRITER writers (*gasp), e.g. novelists, journalists, English professors, etc... I do webcomics… It's not that I feel inferior or that I don't belong (I dabble in writing here and there), I just don't relate as much to most of the threads about writing a certain amount of chapters, or which books you have/plan to read (I read comics, not books).
But, even my minimal, somewhat awkward (on my end) participation has still produced positive results when it comes to gaining followers and building friendships (sorta).
So, we webcomic creators should use #webcomiccommunity more often to create a similar effect. I checked it earlier... It exists, but it's not very popular. We should change that. Use it more on social media. Use #creatorlift so we can all find each other and support each other. You don't have to like every post, you don't have to follow every account, but it's the most obvious way to build a stronger webcomic community online.
Just my thoughts.
Thank you...
