No particular order here either.
BNA (Brand New Animal) - TEN times better than Beastars! (hey, don't glare at that! Do we have to bring up the "Egg Salad" episode...?)
A true "furry" anime that actually illustrates what it's like to be a furry.
And not a bad story at all, and kept us entertained the whole way through. Try to get past the first hate-filled, intolerant episode if you can, because it's worth hanging around. There 's a lot of devious shenanigans at work in AnimaCity, and ancient evil has come for a visit. Can a high-school-girl-turned-Tanuki and her allies save the day?
Please, oh please, let there be a second season, Netflix.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime - It's like the game series Civilization, but with slime.
Basically a man dies and is reincarnated as a slime (natch), and sets about trying to make amends by creating a more perfect world in another universe. It's beyond adorable. While you might get bored with the whole "good guys always win" (because they do), you can't deny the animation is sensational, the characters are gritty and lovable, (even some of the bad guys!), and the story must be doing something good, because they got a new season coming July 2021.
Cop Craft - Take insane action-packed police drama and toss in a beautiful, wayward, cynical and bratty elf princess who can do some pretty powerful sorcery.
Yeah, it just works. Try it out.
Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? - Okay, ignore the extra-creepy relationship the mother and son seem to have, and just laugh along as they get teamed up together in a virtual RPG to fight monsters - and learn some amazing things about one another as people. If you want to watch anime that shows you how to be a better parent or child, this is definitely one to see. This takes some rather ingenious steps towards teaching how to create family unity and harmony.
Cells at Work - What should be mindbogglingly boring is instead a very educational experience if you ever wondered what truly happens inside you. Literally. Backed by countless doctors worldwide for its accuracy and explanations, "Cells at Work" should honestly be required viewing for any medical student.
It's THAT good. While "Red Blood Cell" is a little wacky at times, and a bit monotonous in her endless naivety and clumsiness, you can't deny that our cells do amazing things - and just strengthens the ideology of intelligent design. Our bodies are F**KING amazing.
Kanata No Astra - Okay, we lied. This is #1. No question, lord of the lot, the champion, possibly the BEST anime we've seen in the past 10 years or so. What starts out as "Space Camp" segues into "Lost in Space" and then into a freaky, crazy mystery. A group of teens try to piece together sabotage and corruption and horrors the likes you can't imagine, as they discover not only their origins but the sinister connections they all share. The WRITING itself was absolutely incredible, (and not because one of the writers follows us on Twitter and we sing her praises constantly, ahem) and there was honestly nothing we could fault. The characters, every single one, just as memorable as the others, and relatable in some way to just about everyone on the planet. The cliffhangers at the end of every episode are well-done too, leaving you hungry every week for another clue.
At this time, "Kanata No Astra" doesn't seem to have plans for a second season. And frankly, when you binge this one to the end, ask yourself, "Do we really need one?!"
