Perspective, it's soooooo fun right?

I just have to get this out of my system. Anyone else on here go "UGH!" when you have to deal with perspective while making your comic? I'm not complaining, it's just frustrating sometimes, especially when it's not your bread and butter. Gotta keep practicing though if I want to get better. As my old animation prof says, "Eat your beans."

Yeah. It's one of those things where you know you gotta do it, and you know if you do it well it'll make your comic better, but....UGHHH it's haaaaaaard!

Yesterday we had a class about using traditional perspective without visible vanishing points and my brain turned into MUSH by the end of the class. SO MANY LINES and there weren't enough different colors to separate them in my brain. But yes, it's our veggie equivalent - boring, bad texture, doesn't get used every picture (unlike anatomy), needs to be seasoned or boiled(excuse) to be tasty, and always, always good for you.

I still yearn for the day that I can draw a wide open field or forest or mountain range and make the perspective look at least slightly correct Buildings are easy (for me), trees on the other hand....

I know that feel. Try studying some of the greats in animation, like Studio Ghibli. They have the greatest environs.

• I have trouble getting it to work right and I have no idea why
• I'm on a time constraint. The pressure to get it done instead of just take my time working on it makes it really stressful and not enjoyable at all. The stress and frustration doubled if I happen run into the problem above.

Ngl I half ass all of my perspective unless I'm really into the drawing. It's not that I don't know how to do it, it's that it takes too long for me to care lmao. Call me a bad artist but I get bored easily and hate actually spending time on my art

I'm the exact opposite of this. I find hard surface environments so unforgiving, like you have to construct with all the lines and be absolutely dead-accurate or it looks super obviously wrong, and doing all the lines, or building 3D reference is such an arduous process, I'm just like aargghhhh... But natural environments, I find much easier, like I just build it all in organically and find it quite intuitive, and I can break up lines with bits of foliage and use overlaps to create depth. Maybe because I grew up in the countryside?

landscapes are what i practiced on with perspective. landscapes are fun. i could spend 2198374982734 hours on making all the leave sin perspective and i wouldn't be too tired

When learning how to draw perspective I hated it so bad.
Nowadays it’s not necessarily fun. But it’s not really that hard for me either (assuming you don’t need to overly detail stuff that will soak up your time) and I love seeing the result.
Usually I groan when I draw a thumbnail with a bigger BG. But those are the panels I work through the easiest (while I struggle with panels I thought would be easy peasy and a delight....So....yay, welcome to the Twillight zone xD.

ahaha, part of it is almost certainly that I work as an architecture draftsman, so it's very much in my comfort zone, but yeah.. the sheer amount of squatty out of scale tress and stuff I produce is incredible I need to start like... blocking natural elements out in perspective boxes probably.

this in particular is my nightmare... rendering foliage is quite possibly the most stressful part of drawing for me loool

Perspective is hard, but for me it helped a lot when it stopped being about math snd began being about storytelling!
It is quite fun to design a room when I think about who lives there. Pimp my ride but for background design!
