Pet peeves to avoid when making comics?

My pet peeve is art that looks like this

It makes your comic look bland and it sucks all personality out of your characters. Plus I have seem multiple comics with this art, so more or less your series is not really standing out. I know this is common for people who say they are not good at drawing however, it is not hard to draw cartoon noses, ears, hair, clothes, etc.

On a writing stand point, being readable.
Be this having readable font.
Or being able to know where your characters are and who is talking and not relying too heavily on extreme close ups.

Bad font: Don't use comic sans. Don't use papyrus. Use a comic font. Don't use more than 1 font unless you have to or there's some artistic meaning to it. And finally, only use a serif font if it makes sense for your story (and even then, please don't use a serif font). That, and the font has to match the art style, which takes some experience to figure out. Not everyone can use the same font.

Gonna add something here: you can also make your own font. Or you can also write the text out, especially if the artstyle is a bit "messy" or "edgy". It has an interesting effect & it's quiet fitting.

Characters design that are bland. You can tell the audience just by the design what kind of character or person they are. In which kind of enviorment do they live? Are they shy and not conformtable with showing skin or do they like to show off and dress in flashy clothes? Keeping that in mind would improve your character design immensily.

And characters that are all good-looking, white, straight, teenagers or people in their twenties, skinny and middle to upper class. I live in a very small german town that can be hardly considered one and guess what? I see people from different ethnicities, body types, backgrounds and ages on a daily basis by going out.
Please, unless there is a very, VERY good reason not to include a more diverse cast, do it. Do your research if necessary. The world is not just black and white.

I like comics with so much details like the Dark horse's alien comics and would love to see character's emotion and facial expressions (except for batman odyssey). I am OK of comics without colors but I prefer colors nonetheless.

My only problem in making comics was to improve my skill at drawing backgrounds and try to avoid spelling and grammar errors.
Which is why I use a website called grammarly which helped me a lot.

I guess for me, comics where the art does not improve over the course of multiple years. Now I can understand people wanting to keep things consistent, but there's a difference between consistency and stagnation. That's one of the things that's interesting about indie comics, you can see the progression of an independent artist and follow their journey with them.

This doesn't always apply, especially if the artist is established and being paid. They might not feel the need to show evolution if the team they're on doesn't endorse it. But for independents, is feels like they don't want to put in the effort to get better and would rather rest on their laurels.
