I don't write nearly as much poetry as I used to, but here's a poem of mine that won an online contest a few years back
Code of a Dying Breed
Lights shine brightly from every corner
From every crevice of LED rays
And blue spotlights upon the faces
Of children whose names mean nothing
To the faceless, nameless creatures they've become
As they dance upon the stage laid out for them
By companies, entrepreneurs, and corporations
A tactless army of degradation
The numbers and letters slither across their foreheads
Like a long strand of parasitic worms
Scrolling away their flickering life-force
In a procession of electromagnetic matrices
Identities replaced by pictures and misspelled words
Slang for the world they've been imprisoned in
The pomegranate poisoned by seeds of flashing distractions
And reactions put into a state of stagnation by the monotonous whirring and ticking
It's a dying breed whose decaying flesh melts into sizzling hardware
Whose mirrors have been cracked and replaced by screens
Windows into the far away land of profile pages
Names substituted by code-names
Faces covered by a wall of fan-based affiliations
And bright blue spotlights onto the faceless, nameless drones
Eyes and ears consumed by the ever-raging role-playing
This is their creed of lost souls and shattered names
The code of a dying breed
