“Let us drink to that.” Dacia raised the flagon to her lips, and then froze as a loud thump sounded from behind her.
“The back door.” Heroth spun around. “Who comes at this late hour?”

"You are my Granduncle, it is not that I believe you will bring me harm, but you know what I've set out to do and that conflicts with your own goals". Xasha gave his honest reply in a serious tone.
" Ash, you are naive, you cannot give such firepower to the enemy. You know our situation, I am an old man with at most a century left to live I have no way surpassing the thorium grade if there is even such a thing. After hundreds of years, I am no closer to knowing what lies beyond".
“The princess escaped...” Nesmir scratched his chin. “I’d conclude that she has spies within Lord Esamus’ servants.”
“Then what was the point of getting herself captured?”
“You turned your sister into a bird?” Lily asked, not even looking up from her notebook. “That’s harsh”
"She had it coming, rummaging through my things without permission. Why I needed to be so harsh is my business..." Nick glared at Lily. "And mine alone.” He restated. "And may I state for the record what a lovely bird she made. A pity Lawrence had to intervene." His muscles tensed as he took out his notebook and placed it on his desk.
"Tell me you're finished!" Rish's hands were over his face, one eyeball peeking out between his fingers.
Sean dropped into the chair and hung his head. "No," he said, his voice dead flat. "I'm not. I have a dream to report."

“What is this man doing here?” Iola near demanded.
“Having a much deserved meal.” Dacia cocked her head and sat down at the table. “And you should too.”
"Wait, Taulif," Hector asked as he started to sip on his rum glass once more. "What did Lord Sebastian promise you should you succeed in this unwinnable mission?"
"Oh, nothing big," replied Taulif with his back to him. "Just that I won't be thrown to the gallows, and judging by my known associations I would say that would include you as well. Then again, Lord Sebastian was never known to keep his word anyway."
She squeezed tighter, the corners of lips curling upwards, "My rules are the law. This Island is my property. Everything on this Island is my property."
He leaned his head back, his eyes watering as it felt like her fingers were pressing down against his bones, "Ira...stop."
“We have a big case,” she announced sharply. Her voice boomed in the small room and Thomas snapped up in his chair. A wide grin lit his face and his eyes danced with excitement.
“What happened? Is it a bank robbery? Street mugging?? Murder???” Questions tumbling out, Thomas could barely quell the energy bubbling within him.
“I’m not certain of my limits yet,” Iola shrugged her shoulders. “Well, at least in the objective exercise of this gift... but I do have some moral and self-respecting limits.”
“That is what you need to overcome.” Dacia joined the conversation. “If you really want your gift to bloom.”
Claudia took few moments to process her angel of death’s denial. “But,” she asked, sloppily trying to clean up her tears before pouring some more. “Who would contact your Order to kill me, a simple servant in a lord’s house?”
The assassin knew that her code allowed to reveal the name of her prey’s death bringer. She looked deep in her wet eyes and softly said, “Lord Aker.”

Conner smiled and got up from his chair. “You know what Zach, for an Incoherent you have the heart and soul of a god. If you put your mind to it, you can be anything you want to be, and that is what I admire about you.” Conner said.
Zach was caught off guard with what Conner said to him. “T-Thank you. Nobody has ever said that to me other than Avner. That means a lot to me.” Zach said embarrassed.
"E-Eva!" Her apprentice ran to her side, her hand patting Seraph's back, "Eva, what's wrong?!"
Seraph shook her head, sweat down her brow, mixing with the rivers of tears dripping from her chin, "That name...I know it. I know it!"

“Indeed I have, dear Thurel, at the time of their appointments.” Esamus had a cruel gleam in his dark eyes. “They are all mute... I had their tongues ripped out years ago.”
“But they can write what they have heard.” Thurel protested. “They have hands...”
The old woman bristled and regarded Sandra with contempt. “Well, I just wanted to warn you that I don’t take kindly to any loud noises. I’m a light sleeper and it is absolutely horrible to be woken up in the middle of the night. So preferably no late night parties or trysts with boyfriends or-”
“You don’t need to worry about that,” Sandra cut in sharply as her fingers wrapped around the right key, having identified it by feeling the ridges along its edge. “I won’t be around much.”
She jammed the key into the lock and this time, it gave way easily. As she opened the gate, she turned to Dina and gave a sarcastic smile. “Oh and by the way, I’m single.”
“Oh, me?” Thomas rubbed the back of his head and chuckled. “I’m a police officer.”
She had not pegged him as the police type. Then again, she recalled he was into detective novels and such when he was young. Besides - she discreetly checked him out - it seemed like he was working out.
“That’s cool. Hey, don’t arrest me if you catch me speeding.” Sandra winked.
“Lovell! You’ve gotta follow Bron! He won’t be too far yet! But, if something goes wrong, get the hell out!”
Lovell half-turned to look at Hugh, a grimace on his face. “All right fine! But just for the record I don’t like this!” Lovell charged into the crypt with no further words.

This is fun.
Here it goes:
"E-Excuse m-me..." the girl rescued earlier in the market, sitting on the couch parallel to the other, not quite understanding what the host was planning for her, tried to conceive some way of communicating with her supposed captor. "I-I..."
"Silence," Druko commanded. "It is extremely rude to interfere with someone else's reading."
“That was absolutely brilliant.” Nesmir whispered to her as she slumped backward into his waiting arms. “I’ve already relayed the information to the princess.”
“Good.” Iola nodded as she accepted the clay cup of water Heroth held out to her. “We can finish this tonight.”

"It would be better if I wasn't tied down"
"Are you asking me to untie you?"
Moses looked at none of the men. “My captor doesn’t lock his car doors---his taste in music is terrible by the way. When he arrived here, I simply went upstairs to see if my stuff was still here.”
“You broke into my car?! And---wait, which songs did you hear?”
She sighed. "I am not trying to be rude, but this makes you look like a male concubine."
"Really? I'll just take that as a compliment then. Those concubines are, for sure, a sight to behold."
Shawn simpered as a grin crept across his features. “So you really do like her, Uncle Thomas.”
Red erupted across Thomas’s cheeks and he launched forward in his seat, ready to protest. But before he could deny it, Shawn added, “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone. It’ll be our secret.”
Deflating, Thomas sank back in his chair and massaged his forehead between his thumb and forefinger. “You really are incorrigible, Shawn.”
“Not so fast! Just give up and make it easy on yourself.” The spearman kept backing away, out of reach.
“I will kill you both.” Bron replied with savage intent.

“These are men trained for war, girl?” Kargan interjected. “Surrender is not an option for them.”
“Unless... they are commanded to do so.” Nesmir stepped in front of the larger man and looked into Iola’s eyes.
“Bartley, meet our new art teacher, Sandra.” Elise’s professional tone hid a chilly undercurrent.
As Sandra wore her practiced smile and introduced herself, the male teacher cupped their hands together.
“It’s a pleasure to have such a beautiful lady in our midst,” Bartley drawled. His thumb traced circles on the back of Sandra's hand. “I would love to take you around town sometime.”
