Predator: Siege

"So like, this is end of days... right...?" Noticing the other guards, I lower my hands again, press my back to the tree. "You'se speak English?"

"I do," Montoya says. "But I am afraid the others have not had the benefits of a Jesuit education. May I present Meridius, Herger, and Sir Abelard."

Meridius is a Roman Centurion with a mail shirt and a big square shield. Herger is a Viking, blonde hair peeking under his helmet. He carries a long, thin-bladed axe.

Abelard is an actual knight, complete with lance, armor, and horse.

I nod, slowly, swinging my arms in loose arcs beside me, "okay, cool, so..." I turn to Montoya, "what's the low down? This a... game? Simulation? Am I tripping?" I clap, "I died, and you're my spiritual guide to the afterlife, I knew I shouldn'ta caught the tube during retrograde." I look around, wave a finger at the various flavours of knight, "what do they represent?"

The priest frowns, then smiles. "Do you know, but I have no idea what you just said. I recognize the words but not your meaning."

Abelard says something. It sounds vaguely French and Montoya answers back in the same language. It's clear that he can interpret for everyone.

"The knight asks, What year are you from?"

I laugh, rubbing my elbow, "man, you'se... go hard for this, huh?" I smile at Abelard, "twenty-eighteen."

"To answer your earlier question, I do not believe we are dead," Montoya said. "No afterlife such as this one has ever been described in the Vatican Library. I am your spiritual guide, but only in the sense that all priests are spiritual guides."

"These gentlemen don't represent anything except themselves. Sir Abelard here is from 1373."

He indicated the knight, who nodded at your from atop his horse.

"And Toshiro is from 1586, a little closer to my own time of 1600."

The samurai scowled at you from his saddle.

"I was actually in Japan that year, working as a translator," Montoya said. "I suppose it's fortunate that we all found each other."

He spoke a few words to the knight, who nodded.

"I told him what year you're from," the priest said. "Sir Abelard's accepted it. However, the others and I were still hoping that our loved ones haven't been dead for hundreds of years."

I chew on my lip, gazing up at the sky. I shrug weakly, "I don't think you're alone there, buddy. That ain't no sky I've ever seen."

I look back at the anachronism crew, spreading my hands, "for the record, I still think I'm either tripping balls, or we're all dead and don't realise. But let's roll with it." I scan the horizon, more carefully than I did last time, "anyone explored yet?"

"We were just about to ask you for your name," Montoya said. "Does every woman dress like you in your time?"

[Wezboy]

A 3 meters height man in a fancy suit with a top hat named Dexter appears

I shrug, tugging at my belt and shifting weight to one leg as I imagine a cowboy, or very threatening repairwoman, would. I jut out my chin, "women dress all kindsa ways, I'm dressed for work - and if this is the future, none of your old-timey 'oh it's so cute, he's so lost' misogyny is gonna fly. That trope died with Steven Moffat. I hope."

The mystified stares of five men who have never even heard of women's suffrage.

I sigh, take a step forward, and point at each man in turn, "look, okay? Here's the deal. Women," I hold up a hand, "men," another, then thrust them forward, "equal! Yeah? Comprende? Oui? Oui." I clasp my hands together, "take your time to get your head around that, sure, but if any of you treat me even slightly worse than the average modern man, I will beat you. And there will be nothing madcap or whacky about it."

From the trees and under cloak, the Yautja examines its quarry. The prey is all together. Soon the hunt can begin. It clicks to itself, and a faint M'lady echoes through the canopy.

". . . Abelard is saying we should go west."

"Ooookay," I whip out my phone, opening up the compass app, "let's see what this badboy can do without signal."

What do I notice about the time and date?

"I mean west, judging by the sun."

This world's sun is smaller and fainter than you're used to. You glance at your phone and still don't catch a signal.

I look at the sun, chewing my lip, then start walking. "Alright, cool, chase the sun. If I'm dead, maybe that's s'posed to be God or something. C'mon, time bandits, we're losing daylight."

I appear, chain gun in one hand and a half-eaten rutabaga in the other. The blazing sun glints off of my solid diamond shoulder pads like a million tiny knives.

"Who ordered the Cheese steak?"

I toss the rutabaga behind me and load the chain gun. The rutabaga explodes, killing an innocent sand gopher. The chain gun explodes, slightly tarnishing the shoulder pads.

"Ya want fries with that?"

As far as your phone knows it's still 2018.

Let's just put his character on autopilot. It's a fairly long walk to the nearest village. Good time for more conversation.

I know we're kinda making this up as we go, but I've decided to stick closer to the original story. I'll try not to railroad, but the theme is still "pre-gunpowder warriors."
