@shazzbaa Hey, no problem. If I wasn’t willing to be challenged then what right would I have putting this out for the internet to read? smile

Yeah, I suppose I ended up directing the rant more at the readers rather than creators. It's just with media on the internet, what gets attention is voted for by viewers. Youtube especially works this way. In terms of Tapastic, there will always be people who make a pretty looking comic that get a ton of subs. I mean, it's just an inevitability. However, I guess the reason I addressed the fans rather than the creators is because I was hoping to make them think about voting for something more than for superficial reasons. And I say “I guess” is because I didn’t spend a bazillion years thinking of this rant. XD It was just something I noticed that rubbed me the wrong way and I posted it on the forum because I was tired of keeping it to myself.

@ScampiCub Well, yeah. Of course there isn't a villain here. This post isn't some sort of "call to arms" to "rally the people" or whatever. (Though, I'm aware it may have come across that way. Whoops.) This was just a little rant about something I thought was unfair and felt like giving my two cents. XD

Anyway, I’m not saying that great artwork can’t make a comic good. It definitely can. (Look at Grassblades1 and Glitch4.) However, I just wish there was a little more love for the well written comics out there like :Rebirth4 and Fox & Willow5, ya know?

Those comic actually do get love, but not here. This is where demographics come into play.

A great comic may not be universally liked on all platforms. Each platform has a target audience and a reader type it attracts. Rebirth is doing very well on Webtoons, willow is doing good on its own site and Tumblr. Their 'sucess' shouldn't be measured by numbers solely from one site like tapastic.

Tapastic tend push comics they know that cater to their demographic, thats why their staff picks. Sometimes it's a gamble as to if the comic will take off but it's the way they work the site to get more eyeballs.

Here lies the rub, if a comic you make or read you think is good? You/we need to promote it ourselves. Because people who are friends with you may share your tastes and would be more likely to read it. We need to promote ourselves rather lament or wait for the Holy grail to fall on our laps.
