Promote your comic here, but also talk about what you think about promotion threads and how effective they are

I really only started promoting a lot on here about a week ago. Making threads and posting in them has had a noticeable increase in subs and likes.

I haven't did sub for sub, since I think that is a bit too large of a commitment, while I think the regular promotion threads is enough. Staring threads seems like the best way to get interest, though posting in the start of one also seems to get a bit of attention.

From some of the users who post promotion threads often, it does seem to show that there is a mark increase in subs, and not even dead subs like some would suggest. There episodes/updates still get 10 likes per update and it appears they do try their best to keep up with other stories.

Even if I don't sub to a story, I try to leave a few likes here and there.

I've doubled my subs on tapas. But no real affect on any of the other websites I post on. Maybe 2 subs on webtoon?

I do toss a sub out to some series, and try to get back to them later. I always try to read the first 1-3 episodes when I first sub or at the very least leave alike on a few and try to remember to come back later.

I think the biggest hurdle is finding the time to do so. I guess maybe setting out an hour or two a week to catch up and read through stories might be helpful and actually engage with the story you follow.

(Though Tapas system makes it hard since clicking on something that just updated usually takes you to the recent chapter and not the one you were reading)

What about all of you? What kind of numbers/growth have you seen since posting here?

Hi there! Thank you for this thread! And to answer this question, Yes I will say that I’ve seen a fair amount of growth since I’ve started trying the forums. I do participate is sub4sub mainly because it is through this method that ive been able to find a lot of my now favorite series here in tapas.

Here is my comic, I do hope someone clicks and subs because they like it. ️

Hi! Interesting thread!

I feel like generally, the tapas forums, is only really helpful if you only care about numbers. Sub-for-sub is everywhere here, and I avoid it. I have found a couple of readers here, but not many. I had far more luck and interesting conversations on the tapas discord server!

I think generally, promotion is the way to go with webnovels/webtoons : how can we know your story exists if you don't promote, right? But some places have worked better than others for me ^^

I think promotion threads are 50% effective. On one hand they make people aware that you and your comic / novel exists..

But on the other hand, excessive promotion can be a waste oh time because:
1) you're just showing it to the same group of people who are already aware you exist... and they've already made up their mind whether they like or dislike your stuff.

2) it may turn off some people who might think you're just a spammer or bot.

Well, I have had growth since promoting here, but I definitely think it's better to start interesting discussion/game-ish topics and share your work there than sub4sub threads or threads where the only theme is 'promote' all of those run together, and don't really give people any clearer idea of whether they are interested in someone's story than they would normally have just by seeing the story's cover/thumbnail.

So far the promotion thread has been helpful. I’m growing at a steady pace and gotten introduced to a bunch of great novels and comics. There’s a lot of sub4sub threads which I sometimes use but only if the story is one that I am interested in. Yeah so far it has been helpful.

Hello! There are three kinds of promotion threads I see: the general "Promote Your Comic" threads, the "sub4sub" threads, and the "Promote Your Comic Along With Something Interesting" threads. Of these three, I like the later because you get to reveal a piece of trivia about your story or comic. I sometimes do "sub4sub", but that's mainly for reaching a milestone. And the general ones, I feel, are a bit boring.

Anyway, after promoting my comics through these threads, I've noticed an increase in subscribers.

But anyway, here's my comic. It's a slice of life comic about two best friends. Feel free to check it out!

A majority of my subscriber numbers come from the Tapas Forums promotion threads, so I would consider them immensely helpful. However, after a while, it can feel like shouting at the same crowd of people until a new wave of users comes along usually every few months.

A lot of interesting responses and comics!

It's always interesting since it seems easier to promote on here than other websites ect.

While there are a lot of wrtiters/artist here. I think they are also readers to a certain extent too.

Personally, I'm not really online socially. So, promoting in the forums here gives me a chance to keep my comic in mind for readers I already have, just in case they miss the update or something. I tend to only do 1 or 2 promote threads. 3 at max in a day's update. I don't wanna spam. lol

I'd rather have legitimate readers who keep coming back to the comic. So sub4sub threads don't appeal to me. It just seems like a sub from someone who is most likely not interested in reading others' comics/novels, they just want people to sub them back to get their numbers up. (Sorry if that sounds cynical. I know it is an attempt to help people with numbers, but it seems messy to me.)

Views are most important to me. I'd rather see that going up and knowing that it's because people are reading, even if it's only the same 100 readers coming back and reading. I'll take that over subs any day.

Just updated with episode 53 today. :}

to be fair, i genuinely enjoy and find quite helping the promoting sistem.I started on webtoon, wich is manly for consumer not creators, and i found it pretty strange to not be even able to control the comments that i receive.
It helped a lot, in the end (at least for me)

I have noticed lately that promotional thread are helping (having a small jump in subs from them lately) but things like sub for sub aren’t as good as doing that doesn’t get the readers

I personally like them tbh. I got a few subs and just got my tenth one :3 I don't really like sub 4 sub because I genuinely want to find people who like my comic, and if i just randomly sub to another person's comic that I don't read then that sucks for them and me. I have my list clogged with comics I don't read or have interest in, and they don't have genuine views or engagement. I'm still trying to figure out social media and all that, but the forums have really helped!

My comic just updated to Episode 3 btw!

As for the promotion topic...I'm on the same boat of not doing sub for sub. I like my subs to come from people who really like my series. I think you're right in saying regular promotion on these forums helps on its own! I find most people are very kind and supportive here my comic has gained lots of support from these threads.

I feel they work best when the promotion thread has some connecting thread like "Promote your fantasy romance novels" or "Promote your BL focused novels."

Because if a reader is looking for something specific, which do you think they will click? the one filled with random stories? or one filled with stories of the niche they're looking for?

Sub 4 sub doesn't work imo unless you're doing that with someone who has a similar genre, because then they might read it too.

These forums are so much more effective than any other method or forums I've tried before. I posted under 1 promotional thread and it worked really quickly. And they were people who were actually quite interested in my story! I only posted once before today so I can't have an all definite answer, but it seems to work well. For now I'm going to focus on consistency and engagement (within forums) to see what results it produces. Maybe I'll come back in a week with an update!
