I'm currently working on a new book in my series and there are a ton of scenes that I'm proud of, and several scenes I can't wait to get to, including a long-awaited (extremely spicy) reunion. I can't share that particular book just yet because, well...I'm still working on it
However, when it comes to Anywhere, the novel I'm currently sharing here, there were a bunch of scenes I had to remind myself to slow down to get to, not least of which being the greater part of Chapter 23. (If you've read it already, you know
) There are still a few more coming up, especially this week, that I had a lot of fun with.
I also enjoy creating dialogue between characters because it gives us a chance to see how they really relate to each other. Gen has severe social anxiety and finds it difficult to talk to anyone. He stammers, gets a stomachache, and eventually vomits. The fact that he has friends and a boyfriend that love him, support him, and are patient and encouraging of his progress, is something that surprises him nearly every day. I wanted to show his growth with his new friends in the way that he speaks to, and with, them. From mumbling and averted eyes, to being able to laugh, joke, and look right at them.
Plus, lines like "I hope you hit a tree, asshole" are just incredibly fun to write.
