Promote your series with the meaning of your characters names

i like to do a search through names, and allthough not every name in the series will have a maining most of the main characters or side characters with big plotpoint have one. My main character has the second name Leto which means hidden or forgotten. In this case its to signify Ryan's lack of memories. Elenor's second name is althea which means healer and is considered a 'beautiful' name. those are my to main characters and i have a few more but they arent very big in the story yet or are deceased.

From what I understand, "Kattar" means " strict, rigid, fundamentalist" which suits the male lead very well I think.

The most common meaning of the name "Alicia" (the female leads name) appears to be "noble" but it also sometimes means "‘truth,’ ‘disclosure, revealing, and unclosedness." which I think reflects the way she wants to be close with the male lead and have no more secrets pretty well.

Clara means "Clear, Bright, Famous" and this suits Mrs. Moon impossibly well (it's her first name) and her surname is Moon, obviously, meaning the celestial body, which again, suits her perfectly.

Andrew means "strong" "manly" and "courageous." which also suits him well as he is a very strong carpenter.

Jinho's name is made up of two characters 'Jin' meaning "precious, valuable, rare" and "ho" meaning "brave, heroic, chivalrous." I think he's a rare gem, so this suits him too. He also cares very much about people being treated fairly.

Melissa means "honeybee" which also suits Melissa quite well I think XDD.

Etan means "firm"

Shannon means "Skilled Storyteller" so...yeah.

Essence, my female lead's name, is a word, but it means "the intrinsic nature or indispensable quality of something, especially something abstract, which determines its character."

"Dominic" means "lordly" or "sovereign"

Leia means "weary and tired" which is extremely applicable, unfortunately.

Adair apparenlty means river apparently? Delia "From Delos", Kendra "Royal power", then Eveline and Dustan seem to have no meaning

I put a lot of time into my character names.

Natsumi and Fuyumi Yukihana
Natsu and Yuki mean summer and winter, reflecting the sister's personalities.
Natsumi is bright and optimistic, Fuyumi is withdrawn and pragmatic.
Yukihana means snow and flower; I liked the idea of a flower blooming in snow, a seemingly impossible environment for plant life to flower. In the same way, I wanted a story about discovering their true selves and emerging stronger from the harshest of obstacles.

Keanu Ikazuchi
Keanu is Hawian for cool breeze and Ikazuchi is Japanese for lightning.
His story is about internal conflict and contrast, so his name is two conflicting weather patterns; one violent and dynamic and the other calm and soothing.

David Bladen
There's not much of an interesting meaning behind David's name, because English names feel kinda boring to me. They mostly derive from Jewish origins so they are all, "Glory to god" etc.
But his culture is inspired by Arthurian knights and Britian specifically, so I named him after my Dad.
Other Anglo names are my relatives as well; Thomas Daniels is named after both my brothers and Victoria Fox is my Mum's name and Grandma's maiden name. Victoria's sister Elizabeth is named after a relative, but since Victoria is already the name of an English queen I decided Liz should too.

Yay! I love names and their meanings!

Alec Tryon, my main human protag's name, comes from Alectryon, which is Greek for "rooster".
There is also Alec meaning "fool" and Tryon, Old Irish for "hard-working" supposedly, which fits his personality.

The late Teresa Tryon (called Teri by her husband) got her name from Mother Teresa, and is also called "Mother" by the chickens.

Luke and Angel(she's not appeared in story yet) are Biblical names. Luke means "light-giving" and Angel is obviously "messenger", which plays a little into their roles later on in the plot.

Aldi is literally named after the grocery store XD. But her last name, Zemay is corn/maize(Zea Mays) and her family grows corn for the chickens.
Her (to-appear) sister's name, Jaime, means "supplanter" or "protector", which suits her personality as well.

Most other names (my chicken cast) comes mostly from puns/breeds, like Friar (fryer), Bucky (Buckeye, a breed of chicken), and chicken-related words from other languages like Shmultz (from shmaltz, a Jewish cooking stock) among others!

Thanks for making this thread. My FMC's name is Acacia, pretty much means thorny tree. AND her last name is Haynes, meaning Enclosure. That itself pretty much means that she will remain standing tall regardless of what may happen, pretty critical to the story! For Ozwald honestly, I was just mouthing names with O until I landed in Ozwald but for his last name, Voloro came from two places the 1st one: the legend of Zelda OoT the song Bolero of Fire, and the Spanish word Valor which refers to worth or value something has.

Higen and his family, are named after flowers Higen - Spider lily, Cassandra - Hibiscus (this also applies to his father and grandfather but they haven't been mentioned by name yet); and their last name Banna has an extra N but Bana stands for flower viewing

I like this thread!

The protagonist's name is Emilio: The origin of the name could be either Latin or Greek in which case the meaning is different. In Latin it's origin means 'Rival' and in Greek it means 'Gentle'.
Both meanings suit him perfectly because he's a great opposition to the main villain, and the reason he's going against him is because of his kindness towards others.

The co-protagonist is named Ulises: It means "the one who holds a grudge". Because he wants revenge against the main villain.

There's also one of the antagonists who's name is Fernando: Meaning "The one who dares to do everything for peace". Makes a lot of sense for his motives.

The page I used also has a section about 'General Characteristics of famous people with that name'. And, while I ignored it for some of them, it actually describes the main characteristics of my characters, which is a crazy coincidence.
Emilio: Idealistic, Good friend, Able to adapt to any situation.
Ulises: Stubborn, Headstrong
Fernando: Independent, Reserved, Meticulous.

My stories are set in Japan where names mean a lot, and so when I pick out my names, I do a lot of research. Some forenames I pick either because I enjoy them, or as a nod to someone in particular, but surnames I pick a lot more carefully.

One of my favourite characters is called Hirotoshi Aoi (寛俊). His name means 寛 = gentle 俊 = excellence because he is a very gentle character and yet he can really go far and he's been set up to become someone great thanks to the goddess Inari.

Another character I have is called Hotaka Wada (秀高). His name means 秀 = beautiful/elegant 高 = tall/high. I imagined him to be taller than average, and he can be pretty elegant when he puts his mind to it. The first story I wrote with him in he definitely was.

One of the main character's name is Shibai Zhe which means loser in mandarin. That is not his real name instead a title given to him by people around him who don't know him but only his lifestyle. This name is the only thing that survived the original draft of the character as everything else about him has changed.

The series is named after the main character and his name is DAN.
In Hebrew Dan means Judge or To Judge.

Lol! I love that we all do this! Normally, when I name a character I at least know what their name means (even if I don't choose it Because of what it means). But surprisingly, I didn't do it with my main character and her sister in While Waiting to Wait. (They came to me names included, so they chose their own names. I got no say in this. Haha!)

Emmaline (Female Lead and MC, aka Em), is another spelling for Emmeline and means "work".

Madeline (aka Maddie) is Greek for 'high tower' (which I think fits her pretty well)

Flint (Em's brother in the 'dream world') is .... flint rock That one was on purpose and zero imagination.

Asher (Male Lead) means 'Blessed' or 'Happy'. It was supposed to be an ironic dig and the name I put the most thought into.

I did not chose their given names based on their meaning. Their surnames are an invention of mine based on an inside joke haha.

Ratzi ( MC ) is a play on words for his career. He is a paparazzi in the manga, thus his name, albeit with a slight change to it.

I wasn't particularly naming my characters with some meaning behind them, so I Googled their names to find out!
Landon: Long hill
Brandon: Prince; Broom- or gorse-covered hill; Fire; Swordsmith. (I didn't expect this at all!)
Dex: right-handed; fortunate; skill; agility.
Leonna: Lion

I tried to hide some meaning behind their names that will be useful to them, like the male lead name is Do-yun, meaning, path of allowance. And the female lead name is Ha-eun, meaning, Sky grace.
