I never get people typing "hey check out this other comic!" In the comments section of my episodes. Most of my comments are from reader accounts.

Do you mean like cross promotion? With the banners? or commenting ads on other people's work? :v
Tbh the latter gets annoying to see when I came to read a specific series. It's like a pop up ad―chances are I'll ignore it. Now if it was a cross promotion, I'd consider it I assume the creator likes/has read it, but if it's just pasted in the comments, that's a pass.

If it's me i'll find it annoying. Because if i go to comment section, i'm there because i want to talk or read people talk about that comic, especially on webtoons, you almost can't miss the comments because almost everytime it's super funny/interesting XD So if i enconter "hey check out my comic paste link", it'll be annoying since it's not why i go there, and if you do that enough times on a lot of comics or even all, i'd start to take note to not read your stuff even if i find you via other media ;v;

I think the creator theirself probably don't care since it don't effect them anyway, the one who'll be bothered probably are the readers, especially if they're the hardcore ones, you'll get quite the cruel treatment ;w;

So i'd suggest you to not do it, even if promoting is a struggle doing this actually will make everything much more of a struggle, especially if some hardcore fans decide they don't have better things to do and treat you badly.

Uploading to webtoons is a good enough thing, since there's a real lot of readers there. Even if you only keep posting as usual you'll gain new readers.
Another way to boost it a little bit is probably encourage your readers to share, make a lot of social medias account, like a lot, instagram, discord, tapas, twitter, facebook, reddit, do everything if you can. Because the more accounts you have the better the probability is. But like, don't leave your account hanging, post stuffs and whatnot
Also try to collaborate with others, especially on ig, there's a lot of collaboratioes.
Maybe it'll help if you make small event (not specifically on ig) to share your work and if x amount of new reads/subs reached you'll draw some fan service or something, depend on what your readers want best.
Or contest on who can share the most (tell them to ss people they share it to, and the one who have the most ss win (on stuffs like this there's usually a rule where you need to post in group chats of 10+ members, so it's proven they're not lying)) win a quick sketch of their request.
There's a lot you can do if you decide to hold a contest/event.
Always replying to people on your comments help too, people who don't sub might sub because you're kind and have enough free time to reply to them, especially if you do this consecutively.

And as ottogruenwald said, if you really want toshare via other comics, choosing one that have the same genres with you will work better, since their readers like the genre your comic also have. And you have todo that by contacting that other comic creator, since creator's word will have more impact than if you comment out of nowhere.

Anyway, i think doing that will do more harm than good to you.

Wow, thank you for your thorough response. I wish I knew how to contact the authors outside of webtoons. Would it be better if I couldn't on the comic first, since most time they're gonna im actually avidly reading, and tell them how I feel and the comic makes me feel, and simply ask if they'd be willing to cross promote. I don't know how to suggest it otherwise

Well, actually i think it's best to not get your hopes up regarding cross promote with "featured" creators.
They probably don't read your message since they get many. Isn't like contacting celebrity? They have a lot of people cntacting them @_@ So it's best to not get your hopes up. And honestly speaking if you just want increase in your comic, cross promote with them don't guarantee you'll get that. I think connecting with your readers ls more important, and honing your skills.
But trying a little don't hurt! Try to send them messages, especially on medias you saw them use a lot. And cross promote with your fellow aspiring creators that you "can" contact

I don't mind people saying to me in my private messages, "hey check out my comic" because I know they must be eager to grow an audience. I strongly dislike when they do it in the comment section. I feel like: a) my comic is not important enough for them to comment something about my plot, characters, art, etc. and they are just there spamming. b) Many times those comments sounds like readers should stop reading my garbage and jump into a better comic.

As a reader I am most likely to visit a comic if:
-The cover and description are eye catching.
-The comic recommended by creators I love.
-The author make a very funny/nice comment on the forums or in the comment section of another comic.
-The author have a pretty profile picture with nice art.
-The author and I communicate and become buddies! -
-The author seem genuinely interested in other people's comic and eventually recommend their work. Like, "wow I can relate, I have a character just like yours". This seems more genuine and less desperate. Out of curiosity I would want to check that out.

Wow, thanks for your experience. Yeah, it's my fiance's comic and I'm looking for ways to support him. I introduced him to webtoon and have been a avid reader of so many comics, and when I went under the comics i hadn't considered how it would come off and how it would affect him. I'll keep that in mind, do you have a comic on webtoons I can see?

I only have a comic in Tapas. I hope I can jump into webtoons soon. But I was kind of ledalying it because I was told that their audience prefer longer updates. How many pages per update you think is good on webtoons? I would love advice!

So part of the problem with advertising your comic in the comment section of another comment is that you're basically using someone else's space for your personal gain. Doesn't matter how big or small they are, that is taking advantage of another person. This is the sort of thing I'd be highly offended by, and if done on my comic it would make me feel like the other person was trying to use me.

Cross promoting has already been brought up, but yeah, that is a much better way to go about things. Build genuine relationships with other newbie creators. Help uplift each other. And always remember building a readership is a long game!

Actually, although yes it is preferred, there are SO many popular but short comics out there. Especially on discover where it's people just doing their best, and readers understand that. Check out merryweather on webtoon. Prime example of short but popular comics, both in discover and featured!! So don't hold back, you can get a very large audience being in both! And if you wanted to make a banner for yourself, we don't mind exchanging and still promoting across platforms!! I'm sure there's plenty of readers out there that read from both, so we can help each other out! And I'll definitely support you if you start a webtoon!

You make a good point about the long game. While the MAY be interest brought in by my "spam", and at this point I doubt it, that's still only for that moment, and can come with negative outcomes too.
