Most of us know that the FCC plans to vote to cease and desist all of Net Neutrality this week, December 14, 2017.
For those that don't know what Net Neutrality is, it's basically what allows you to explore your favorite websites at no additional cost. With the threat of the FCC voting against Net Neutrality or "internet freedom" the government will be able to control what you see, hear, even what you freely say on the internet. If they don't agree with your thoughts/opinions, you'll simply be blocked.
Broadband providers would be able to charge you additional "packaging fees" on top of what you already pay for internet. And if you live in the U.S. internet isn't cheap. (Ex. I pay $145.00 per month for internet, and if the FCC wins against Net Neutrality I'll have to pay even MORE if I want access to social media, youtube, and more--all will be separate packages that I'll -- and YOU'LL-- have to pay).
We all take the internet for granted, and this definitely isn't the first time we've had to fight the government against censoring the internet and it definitely won't be the last. We've seen variations like this before with PIPA, SOPA--and now we'll need to come together and protect our right to a free and open internet. Without the freedom of the internet a lot of small businesses and entrepreneurs (Youtube creators, indie businisses, etc...), and webcomic creators like us, will be at risk.
So far, websites like Reddit, Patreon, Imgur, DeviantART, Etsy, and so many more are trying to fight against the FCC. But we all need to take our part.
