So I found my old notebook from my Personality Psychology class last year...we took a lot of fun little quizzes in the beginning of the semester, and I thought I'd share 'em with y'all.
A self-monitor is someone who's good at modifying their behavior to fit a given situation. If you just "are who you are", you're probably a low self-monitor. If you can get along with pretty much anyone, you're probably a high self-monitor.
Now it's time to take the quiz! Choose True or False for each statement, according to how well it applies to you. Read very carefully~. Scoring directions are at the end.
Personal Reaction Inventory
- I find it hard to imitate the behavior of other people (T/F)
- At parties and social gatherings, I do not attempt to do or say things that others will like. (T/F)
- I can only argue for ideas I already believe. (T/F)
- I can make impromptu speeches even on topics about which I have almost no information. (T/F)
- I guess I put on a show to impress or entertain others. (T/F)
- I would probably make a good actor. (T/F)
- In a group of people, I am rarely the center of attention. (T/F)
- In different situations and with different people, I often act like very different persons. (T/F)
- I am not particularly good at making other people like me. (T/F)
- I'm not always the person I appear to be. (T/F)
- I would not change my opinions (or the way I do things) in order to please someone else or win their favor. (T/F)
- I have considered being an entertainer. (T/F)
- I have never been good at games like charades or improvisational acting. (T/F)
- I have trouble changing my behavior to suit different people and different situations. (T/F)
- At a party, I let others keep the jokes and stories going.
- I feel a bit awkward in public and do not show up quite as well as I should. (T/F)
- I can look anyone in the eye and tell a lie with a straight face (if for a right end). (T/F)
- I may deceive people by being friendly when I really dislike them. (T/F)
Scoring
Answer Key: 1:F, 2:F, 3:F, 4:T, 5:T, 6:T, 7:F, 8:T, 9:F, 10:T, 11:F, 12:T, 13:F, 14:F, 15:F, 16:F, 17:T, 18:T
Score one point for each answer that matches the key. A total score of 11 or above means you're probably a high self-monitor; 10 or below means you're probably a low self-monitor.
Being a high self-monitor might sound kind of negative, but there's nothing inherently wrong with either side of the spectrum. I mean, for every ingratiating two-faced snake there's also a stubborn, self-centered shut-in. ^^'
