Publishing High Quality Comics

I'd like to know how everyone publishes their comics with whatever software they use. I'm using Clip Studio paint. I usually save mine as PNGs for Tapastic, DA and my website, but save them as JPEGs when publishing on Webtoons. First I combine all layers into one, then I change the image size to whatever the final size is going to be (usually 6, 7 or 800 pixels wide). Next, I publish it as a PNG or JPEG at the highest quality CSP will allow. When I do this, however, I do notice a slight drop in the sharpness of the image. Some thinner lines have a more pixelated look and there seems to be a slight blurriness to everything.

So I'm just wondering how everyone else goes about publishing their comics at the highest possible quality. I'd especially like to hear from CSP users but I'd like to hear from everyone else as well.

Unfortunately I don't know if CSP has an option like this, but Photoshop allows you to choose how to resample the image as it's resized. Different things work for different images.

Otherwise, there isn't much you can do other than try to sharpen it after the fact. Honestly though? I don't think many people will notice or care, especially if they only see the very slightly blurry version. I understand the need for it to look crisp but it isn't something to worry a ton about

P.S. I don't even bother doing PNG for web posting, the high quality JPGs looks exactly the same these days and are smaller in file size.

I use CSP but I don't use it for re-sizing. I'll do my work in CSP usually at a resolution of 300dpi and 3200X5200 pixels and save as a Clip Studio Format until I've finished my page. Then I'll combine the layers and save as a TIFF to prevent any degradation of the file quality. To make it compatible with Tapastic, I then open the TIFF file in Photoshop, resize it there to 940X____ and save it as the highest quality JPEG that I can. I find that Photoshop does the best job retaining resolution while reducing the file size and gives you the best options for saving as new types of files. Doing this solved the problem of blurriness for me when changing resolution.

I use Automator to resize the pngs I export from Clip Studio Paint at full size, but I know not everyone is on a Mac. If you have a Mac, though, Automator is a superb resizer and only requires a few minutes to set up the script to resize easily and consistently every time.

For a Windows machine, I recommend using Gimp's functionality for exporting in resized formats. I used that before I changed to Mac systems, and a great bonus is that it's free. Score! Gimp does very well in individual files or in batch conversion. Give it a try!

I was thinking I'd probably start publishing as JPGs, especially because I want to put them on my own website so saving space will be important. Thanks

Just make a new Automator script with these:

1) New Folder - call it resize or something and locate it wherever you want.
2) Get Folder Contents
3) Change Type of Images - to jpeg
4) Scale Images - To Size (pixels)

Play with it a bit as you like! You can even put the script on your Dock and drag images onto it. Or you can just drag images onto the script wherever it is in Finder!

Automator does an amazing job with regards to quality. Hope this helps you a lot!

When I type the desired width in To Size (pixels), it changes the height not the width. Would you have any idea how to change this?
