Publishing on two platforms, yes or no?

What do you guys think about publishing on two platforms? Is it favorable or not? I’m kind of confused.

I'm pretty sure about 90% of us do, lol.

I publish on Tapas, Webtoon and GlobalComix.

Let me tell you this, unless you did a throughout research on each platform beforehand and tailored your work to get popular on one, you don't know where you'll find your audience. So, if you haven't signed any exclusivity deal, I see no reason to restrict yourself to posting to just one site. Especially since you never know when platforms will go down - let's never forget smackjeeves

Thanks for the help. How good is globalcomix to publish by the way. I know webtoon and tapas got the majority of audience in this industry though

Well, it's definitely more creator focused platform and so, I think there may be more creators there than readers... 'xD Currently there are only 56 people following me there (vs 5.6K on tapas) and yet my stuff was twice included in them most popular of the year features globalcomix made at the end of year.
It's got some really neat features like panel-by-panel viewer, so that you can make page comic more accessible to mobile readers, being able to sell pdfs through the site (no one bought one from me so far, but it's there...), you also get there access to some real analytics (like where your readers come from, both country wise and where was the link that lead them to your stuff) and from time to time they've promoted my comics over on reddit (something I know about only thanks to those analytics)

Their analytics are absolutely awesome.

Also, they allow adult content without censoring the hell out of you, which IMO is a huge thing.

But yeah. I'm thinking I need to learn Korean because apparently a big chunk of my readership is from Korea.

linktree - just a list of links, I guess you can choose a background and icon
carrd - pretty much lets you build a miniwebsite, you can add pictures, links, buttons, separate stuff into pages

and both have free, limited options, with linktree it seems like they keep more customization behind the paywall and analitics, with carrd, you're limited to 3 sites per account (nothing stops you from using another email if you need more...) and have some more advanced options locked (but those require some coding so if you're going for them, you're better off just making your own proper website :P)

personally I prefer carrd, because I can separate stuff into categories and not just have a one long list

Thanks for the link! I've been thinking about joining globalcomix and I was completely unaware of flowfo (and kinda didn't see many mentions of webtoonsapp or mangatoon), so it's very inetersting.

From what I remember webcomicsapp may have had some history of not that good contracts (like all the other big platforms, as we've all noticed) and they had a tendency to send out a spam looking e-mails to creators they'd like to potentially work with. There are actually quite a few threads here asking if they're legit.
As for mangatoon, I'm not really sure why it is pretty much never mentioned... though one more thing I'd add about it is that it's probably where I've gotten the most comments, including the dumbest ones, like asking where the female lead is in a boys love comic... 'xD

I think maybe it's harder for novelists on tapas, as the comics suit the quick read better? But I have quite enjoyed being here for the last few months even if it isn't doing anything for my book sells yet

Well, it did start as comics site first, so I'm not surprised if most of readers here come for the comics and not novels '^^ Plus the main site kinda shows where the staff's priorities lie

don't know how it is on other platforms though, webnovels aren't really my thing, for longer reads I prefer printed stuff over digital

Yes strange to say when I am promoting on a digital site, but I like physical print best too But it is still awesome and sometimes a bit overwhelming to have access to so much literature just on a phone

For any novel writers out there, if you are planning on posting on multiple platforms, make sure to do your research beforehand. A lot of writing platforms only want tropey romances so if you aren't game to writing the next alpha, billionaire, whatever romance you likely aren't going to make any money. The sites also won't promote for you. I know most of us aren't delusioned enough to believe that a platform should promote each individual series for you, but there are writers who believe that.

The platforms also aren't loyal to their creators. I was the "star" writer on another platform and singlehandedly brought in dozens of writers to the platform and a ton of user traffic. How did they "reward" me? They picked a new story as the "crowd favorite" (writing contest - I held the spot of most popular for weeks) and stole one of my covers. They asked my permission as an afterthought and I received no compensation or royalties for the continued use of my image to date.

We've also all likely seen the thread about Tapas and predatory contracts. This is not a trend specific to comic artists. Platforms want great content and don't care if they exploit writers, especially younger ones to get it. Play it safe and shop around. Writers are usually safest going the indie route and either making their own sites to publish on or self-publishing through bigger chains like Amazon or Barnes and Noble.
