Who is your most attractive character?
For Wild Nights, Hot and Crazy Days it would be Derrick.
That hair colour was natural. So deep red it was burgundy.
For Finding Daecon's Way it would be Evander.
Can you tell that I have a type?
Who is your smartest character?
In Wild Nights, Hot and Crazy Days, it would depend on how you define "Smart". If you mean "Wise", then it would have been Carman, the step-uncle of my friend Aiden, who offered me some important and life saving advice when I was very young. If you mean "Knows how to do stuff, or will figure it out", that would be Carmen (note the different spelling), the main character who also happens to be me.
In Finding Daecon's Way it would be Dionysius, Daecon's father. He is both wise and smart.
What story is next?
I've got to finish book two of Finding Daecon's Way. After that I've got a near-future AU Sci-Fi thriller planned using the characters of Finding Daecon's Way but not as shapeshifters.
What is your writing super power?
If I have one at all it's my memory. Writing a true story like Wild Nights was made a lot easier by my vivid memories of events. On the Finding Daecon's Way (fiction) side I'd say it's my knowledge of how things work, and my insistence on plausibility. Things have to be explainable. "Because magic" doesn't cut it.
How long do your couples usually know each other before they become official?
This is going to sound crazy, but the main couple in WNHCD became official the day after they met. Yes, love at first sight exists. The fact that this couple has been together for 25 years since that first meeting is proof of that (and remember, this is a true story).
Perhaps because of this personal experience, the leads in FDW fell in love at first sight as well, though they did not act like it. In fact they acted like they hated each other. They very quickly came around, though, and it is revealed to them that they are Fated Mates. Their relationship was destined to happen.
First Kiss?
Again, in WNHCD things happened quickly. All of the relationships and false starts started out with an early kiss. Actually, all except one. One relationship ran its course with no kisses at all, even though much more than kissing happened. It's actually a plot point.
In FDW, the first kiss happens in the second-to-last chapter, though in "real time" the entire story so far happens over 48 hours. The kiss almost happened earlier but they were interrupted.
what are the most frustrating parts of being an author in your opinion?
Finding time to write! If it's not one thing it's another! I can draw with distractions, I can read with distractions, I can even write in these forums with distractions, but to sit and actually write write I need to have solitude and a clear mind. I need to get in the "Zone", and that has not happened much lately.
what is the most fun part of the writing process for you?
When I can inject a little humour into a scene. For example, when Owen turned into a bear and Daecon rode on his back up the side of a mountain, Daecon started snickering and said "I've had bears, I've had bareback, but this is the first time I've ever ridden bareback on a bear's back". Also, when he was describing his promiscuous dating life: "I use the Pokemon principle: Gotta catch them all!"
What character is your favorite to write (story by story)
In WNHCD you might think I'd pick the MC, which is me, but you'd be wrong. I loved writing Rodney due to his Newfoundland accent, and I loved writing Mel because he was just so damned silly.
In FDW Daecon would be my favourite, with Dionysius being a close second.
Who is your most difficult character to write?
In WNHCD, Derrick would probably be the most difficult to write because of his tragic ending.
In FDW it would be Lucinda the Hecate. She's the only female (so far) in the story and I don't write women well.
What is your favorite dynamic to write overall? What about just non romantic ones? What about just romantic ones?
Favourite dynamic in WNHCD would be between Derrick and Mel. They were the best of friends but were polar opposites and bickered like an old married couple.
In FDW it would be between Owen and Leander. They are a married couple and are also total opposites: Owen is a crusty, humourless hardass with little patience and who does not suffer fools gladly. He is tall and thin. Leander is short and built like a brick shithouse, but he is also a romantic and a bit of an airhead. Do not mistake his good nature for being a pushover though: He is very protective of his husband and his son, and he is very strong.
Who are your favorite couples in your stories?
In WNHCD it is the ultimate couple, Carmen and Troy. In FDW it's probably Owen and Leander for reasons given above.
Do you like writing siblings in your stories?
Not particularly. I have three siblings and they played very small parts in WNHCD. There are no siblings mentioned at all in FDW.
which of your stories has been the trickiest for you to make so far?
FDW, and by a long shot. Writing nonfiction is easy. Fiction is hard.
