Nichijou is a perfect example of a series that does this kind of thing well.
Nichijou may not have a running plot or continuity, but it pulls the audience in with great characters and a twisted sense of humor. (oh and kick-ass animation for a slice-of-life genre)
On the other hand, it may not be as "popular" as other animes with romances or an actual plot because of these reasons.
But Nichijou is an undiscovered gem in the anime/manga industry. It doesn't really matter what the content of your comic is (well ok as long as it isn't extremely problematic), but the way you present your idea.
